I am maintaining a solitaire Horsebox and am investigating the feed to the living quarters. In the battery bay their is a domestic 15amp socket their is also a feed from the leisure batteries (2x12v in series) through a converter to a 15amp plug that has apparently never been plugged in. Advice on the purpose of the plug and socket would be much appreciated.

Sounds like an electric hook up and/or an inverter system to provide 230v to the living quarters.
When you say 15a domestic plug do you mean an actual
15a plug (this is unlikely),
a 16a plug, round and blue, ceeform (most likely)
A 13a 3 pin plug top, like you have to plug the TV in?
The batteries are wired in series as most commercial vehicles are 24v.
In theory there should be a little consumer unit somewhere inside with an RCD and MCBs but depending how DIY the install is it may or may not be fitted. If it's 230v it'll need checking by somebody competent to do so to check it for safety.

this is starting to sound like a widowmaker setup if the 'socket' is what i think its for

from your description ( if the terminology is correct ) it sounds like a DIY install and quite dangerous...by dangerous I mean lethal
