15 y.o. oven trips RCD

Hi everyone,


It's been 3 years since my last post about a one-off tripped RCD, and some 18 months ago it started tripping nearly every time when heating up our built-in Electrolux EOB53000 oven to 180 degrees or higher.

The only workaround is to heat the oven to 50 degrees, wait a bit, heat to 100 degrees, wait, heat to 150 degrees and so on. This doesn't cause the trip (i.e. never to keep the "oven heating" indicator lit for any longer periods of time).

The 2010 house is wired from Wylex CU, with two rings, each guarded by a WRS80/2 RCD, and naturally only the one with the cooker trips.

Would replacing the RCD be the first port of call? ScrewFix sells WRDS80/2 -- would that be OK, or should I e-bay like-for-like (namely WRS80/2) ?

It's an old oven (first models released in 2007), which in our case sometimes also starts to click its control board relay, flickering the clock display (not had this for a month, but it used to be quite often), so if the RCD replacement wouldn't help, it's the oven itself that's going next, or is it worth fixing? (It's A rated, nowadays could buy an A+ rated one.)

Most ovens have more than one heating mode, i,e at least fan oven or conventional oven. If yours has that option and you always use the same mode (e.g we always use fan oven) then try a different oven mode.

If you find it works on one mode but trips on another, e.g find it works on conventional oven but not fan oven, then replace the heating element for that mode.

Heating element breaking down. They aren't hard to change, although you are likely to end up cursing the amount of sticky grease in the back of your oven

how about replacing the faulty part(s) that's causing the RCD to do its job and isolate the power?
