    Banned breed

I inherited this one from his original owner who emigrated. I was a bit worried about the bad reputation the breed seems to have so I had him over for a couple of play-dates first to see how we got on with him. He was a hit with the family from the moment he arrived, when he first met the cat...

    Balance transfers

If you do it right you can save money but be careful of the fine print about what happens if you make new purchases on the card, what interest rate they'll be at and how the payments are allocated.

    Banned breed

Here's the entire top photo complete with banana trees outside my bedroom window. If I run short of attachment allowance at a later date I'll probably delete it so apologies in advance if it's no longer there. The mangy cat managed to sneak into the one picture. Dogs are making a comeback...

    Banned breed

Thanks Manator, it captured his 'feeling sorry for himself' expression. He's an American Pit Bull Terrier. but I don't think you're allowed to own them in the UK. They have a similar shaped head to a Staffie but they're quite a bit larger.

    Banned breed

My wife just got a newfangled phone, one of those with a touchscreen and a camera so I took a couple of dog photos to test it. I also noticed I've got more attachment allowance than I used to have so with no more ado here's handsome boy himself; He's feeling sorry for himself because he has a...

    Dyson Ball Vacuum cleaners

If you're going on that approach then I'd suggest max capture of global leakage at the RCD itself because the Dyson could be sparking and the resulting noise and spikes might be getting filtered to earth by other equipment or appliances that have built in noise/surge arrestors.

    Dangerous lifting equipment..

Finish your supply work then give him your concerns in writing and walk away. Don't get involved, the issue is between the customer and the supplier/installers.

Fridge running constant - too cold

Yeah, it's a waste as you say but with the disposable and built-in obsolescence nature of appliances it's the way things are. Unfortunately in most 1st world places fgas legislation requires that old gas is recovered (not dumped to atmosphere). If the gas is flammable it must be vacuumed or...

    My week

Glad to hear she's doing better and you're also sounding a lot more upbeat which I take as a good sign. By the look of it with her condition she's going to need help with getting over some of life's hurdles but it sounds like she's in good hands with support at home and the medical professionals...

Any one got a Belle cement mixer with a Honda engine?

I've never heard of dinted either, I thought maybe the spellchecker lettuced his post when he wasn't looking. The cover with the star is the valve cover, if it was leaking there'd be oil evident, it wouldn't affect the fuel/air on the intake side.

Fridge running constant - too cold

Not necessarily with a domestic. I don't work on domestic fridges and I don't know your particular fridge so I'm making assumptions here but if the t/stat bulb is physically located at the far end of the evaporator then gas shortage would make that area of the plate relatively warm meaning the...

    Have a look at this

Okay, I've decided to design a system that can both suppress the fire and clear the fault. It's still in the design stage but I think I've got all the basics covered. Constructive suggestions welcome.

    Have a look at this

I'm surprised they got a system like this past the BS regs in a domestic environment. Problem I would say is it's not clearing the fault, hence only treating the symptoms and probably only temporarily. Saying that I guess it's only following in the questionable tradition set by the latest UK...

Fridge running constant - too cold

I know it sounds counter-intuitive but depending on the arrangement of the refrigeration circuit being slightly short of gas can cause the symptoms you describe .

I may have found the answer

It's pretty much guaranteed he's going to strip screws sooner or later. If you even look at the poorer quality neutral bar screws funny they'll strip so I'm not even sure how he could be using an impact tool on those.

Lost Administrator in Win 7 Pro

You can try running this reg edit but do so only as a last resort and at your own risk. It's the software equivalent of the hammer shown a couple of posts above. Place the text file on the desktop of the WIN7 PC, change the file extension from '.txt' to '.reg' then double click to run it. Good...

    My week

I wish you and your daughter well, (no scoobs required) it can't be easy for any of you. Hope things get better for you.

    Starting out!

Given your lack of job experience and business experience I'd only make the break to self employed if you have at least some guaranteed bread and butter work that would pay at least a reasonable portion of your required income. As pointed out above, being self employed isn't all wine and roses...

    three-floor hallway lighting conundrum!

I get your point now, domestic installers are only a UK phenomenon and I didn't pick up on your exact wording first time round. It sounded like it was getting a bit messy with different switches not compatible with some grid plates. Relays could be designed that intermediate switches aren't...
