    Home audio systems

From past experience of these projects I have a more creative solution that is likely more future proof Only on Netflix movies and restaurants does everyone now listen to the same thing everywhere and cat 8.1 will be along around the same time as HDMI 4 changes our 16K 3D tv experience forever...

NHBC guidelines on sockets in new builds

The builder either saves on build costs (straight to profit) or sells extra sockets at a stupid (profit) upgrade price Nothing the volume housebuilders do is done that way for any reason apart from profit

Cut power to other flats when upgrading mains board.

I think we can safely say whoever left this lot like that wasn't an electrician

Adding extra solar panels (Y connector) doesn't increase power?

Panels only produce power (as opposed to voltage) if there is a demand for power (current) that they can satisfy. If you have demand for 80W and a solar panel in full sun rated at 100W it will output 80W if the charge controller is rated for that If you have demand for 80W and 2 solar panels...

What should your college courses have taught you, and failed to do so?

Bit hard on teachers ? Ok fair enough 😂😂😂

    Battery Volts / SOC relationship

Start slowly. Are these 5 12V batteries or a single 50 V. The voltages you quote suggest lead acid but a clue would be good How are they charged and with what and to what voltage ? No. SOC from voltage is a generally poor indication due to various factors including battery temperature...

The right cert to be issued, whether minor works or EIC

I vote minor works - and agree that any alleged reg that actually outright bans multiple cables in an MCB yet allows a large clump of wagos with the same cables. stuffed in the cavity behind is unrealistic and pushing in the wrong direction especially on existing installations. Ideally as many...

AM2S Assesment l. Failed Insulation Resistance

When trying to pass exams the best bet is to do it precisely the way they taught. There may be 20 other ways (some equally good) that get the job done but you’ll get no marks for that.

    T&E in conduit?

I regularly run flex, aerial and speaker cable in white conduit to tidy up TV and AV installations. Presumably I’m doing it all wrong

    EV charger installations

    Now here’s a surprise https://eandt.theiet.org/content/articles/2022/03/tens-of-thousands-of-ev-chargers-installed-in-homes-could-be-dangerous/

    Lighting master switch

First I'd get them to write down and sign in blood what they want to happen. A single 'kill switch' is do-able but will confuse visitors entering from the front door finding no switches working A single 'On switch' action in these days of many LED drivers having a switch on inrush...

Voltage and current flow theory. Led lights

You are surely right 😂😂😂😂. How TH did that come up in new posts ?????

Voltage and current flow theory. Led lights

There can be an isssue with this arrangement as the transformer still has to supply the required power (you give 12v at 10A as an example which is 120 watts) over the cable to the actual LEDs. 120W is a heck of a lot of LEDs but going with that example, whatever the voltage, you need ‘10A in...

Twin Mains supply to double socket socket

Gawd, is this still rolling on ? Once upon a time twisting power conductors going into a terminal was regarded as either OK or good. So was smoking, buying british motorbikes and spam - After all, this was waaay back when 'stranded' mains power cables and twisted together earths outside a box...

Can I change my LED rope light controller

Just an FYI the control units and mains to low voltage power supply (may be on one box or separate) are really best best not swapped as the markings on the units are rarely that useful. The strings with alternate and flashing patterns do this by outputting DC in one polarity to light one set...

Can this light stay on all night? And if so how can i do it

No, there is no way to keep those on either all the time or all night. They operate for a set time period when triggered by movement as long as its darker than the set 'twilight level'. Similar models without the PIR can be wired to a separate light sensor, or a timeswitch
