    Connections to 95mm^2 cable

Brilliant idea Deke. I'm ugly and cheap and do the job so it seems a good match! Thanks. Never used line taps before - looks like a good option. Can't find any instructions or technical data on them. Do you put the two wires in together and clamp down - or is there a way of joining the clamps...

    Connections to 95mm^2 cable

Thanks for the response. For feeding the top field which is a fair distance I need to keep volt drop down. So from a 63A 3 phase supply via MCBs - which would normally take a 25mm cable I need to connect to a 95mm cable. Similarly at the other end coming down from 95 to either 25 or 16 so I can...

    Connections to 95mm^2 cable

I'm bidding on a new caravan site install. To keep volt drop down to 3% I'll need to run a 95mm^2 4c cable from one main DB to second DB in the middle of the next field. To get back into my comfort zone I need to get from 95mm back down to 25mm at both ends. Can anyone point me in the...

Difficulty of connecting 45A DP shower switch using 10sqmm cable

Assuming a ceiling mount try to get the cable in such a position that they disappear up the centre cutout when you put the switch in position. Assuming surface mount - oh dear! Cut cables as short as you dare and pre-form as far as possible - and hope for the best. Can be a swine to get...

    little piggys house of straw

I've seen this once before. As such it seems like a good idea - cheap, renewable, warm, good soundproofing (though not good for electrics) - but I was told that if the walls get wet the seeds within grow and the wall splits open! How's that for being green!

How to deal with RCD tripping - external noise

ohms law - 30mA leakage at 230v - R=V/I 230/0.03 = 7666ohms to cause a trip = 0.00766M. 0.35M may be an indication that something on the system may be breaking down - or an indication that a surge protected extension lead has been left in - but it won't cause tripping.

    Switching to LEDs (MR16)

I don't understand why the lamp should affect the transformer rating. Did each light have it's own transformer. If so was it rated from 0-60W? It seems your experience has been far different to mine.

Bathroom extactor fan isolater. reg or good practice???

I'm with you 100% on this one Dave as far as piddly litle domestic fans go - just a suggestion for dealing with the problem for electrician who like to fit an isolator and landlords who don't want a fan switched off.

Bathroom extactor fan isolater. reg or good practice???

And blow the fuse or trip the RCD. How many Joe public will then know they have to switch the fan isolator off to restore power? One solution is to supply the bathroom light from the switched side of the isolator - ensures the fan has to be on from a landlords point of view but also provides...

    Switching to LEDs (MR16)

Be very careful with replacing the MR16 like for like. Some say you can use the existing transformers - but in my experience the electronic transformers generally need a 20W load and if less would cut out every so often - so needed to replace transformers with LED drivers. I would strongly...

What an NVQ is (apparently) considered as equivalent to in "old" quals

Any friend of Batman is a friend of mine! Soapbox time - sorry! A good friend of mine works with new graduates - and he says that if you gave them a pickle jar they could tell you the acidity of the vinegar, where the onions were grown their density etc - but don't have a clue how to open the...
