One solution is to supply the bathroom light from the switched side of the isolator - ensures the fan has to be on from a landlords point of view but also provides maintenance isolation.
But that only provides EXACTLY the same "maintenance isolation" as turning off the MCB in the consumer unit doesn't it.
I'm with you 100% on this one Dave as far as piddly litle domestic fans go - just a suggestion for dealing with the problem for electrician who like to fit an isolator and landlords who don't want a fan switched off.

What's wrong with having the fan isolator on a pull switch in the bathroom they do make three pole pull cord fan isolators Ashley for one. I don't think any decent electrician would fit a fan without some form of isolation and just re lie on circuit breaker for isolation. What happens when fan goes faulty does the customer have to call out an electrician to isolate fan so they can have the lights back on.
