    chopping out tips!

My method is use 25mm back box where possible - very often it's plaster depth so it saves time. I mark the rectangle with a floorboard bolster - find it easier to work with than an electricians one - then 2" SDS chisel as sellars. I finish corners by hand with a small chisel. To finish I rough...

    Your favourite filler.

Plasterboard or coving adhesive is good for a rough fill of chases - cheap and goes off quick. Readymix plaster for smaller jobs.

Why is the electrical trade unique in the way it behaves towards customers and fellow tradesmen

If it was free to download and refer to there would be no excuses for the cowboys - and the technically minded pubic would police it! Also you could print out only the relevant sections and tables (how often have you seen or used aluminium cables if you're domestic/light commercial?) Also if...

Why is the electrical trade unique in the way it behaves towards customers and fellow tradesmen

This is a common theme in engineering. Lots of equipment has a multitude of documents saying how it is built and to be maintained. There are no documents explaining why it was built that way. The regs are a similar case. They could be simplified a lot if they were written in a way explaining...

Why is the electrical trade unique in the way it behaves towards customers and fellow tradesmen

Having been through an electrical engineering apprenticeship with many years in engineering design I've found that people are people whatever discipline they come from (with the exception of Software engineers who as a rule have egos the size of a planet and think anyone who doesn't understand...

    On the way home.

Sounds like a TT system with a N-E fault. Switch off RCD and try N-E insulation. ---------- Post Auto-Merged at 13:17 ---------- Previous post was made at 13:09 ---------- I've found this on some RCBOs as well - can't remember the make and certainly can't explain it!

Cheap(ish) Inspection Cameras at LIDL from 31st May

Tried it this afternoon. Customer heard popping noises behind the soil stack cover and the socket ring fuse had blown. After investigating under the bath to no avail I drilled a 50mm access hole downstairs - and with the camera was able to see where a leak from the bathroom had run down and...

    Chiltern ELCB

The theory of the ELCB's is valid but with bonding to buried pipes it is possible to have multiple earth paths - so the full trip voltage may not be seen. If next door is TNCS and shares the metal pipes then it might never trip. On the other hand I've come across one which tripped perfectly at...
