    Tripping RCD on Night Storage

I've just been called to a customer who can't reset his RCD on the night storage CU. When I had a look, it would only reset if the main switch in the main board was closed. As soon as I opened the main switch on the main board then the RCD on the Econ 7 CU tripped. This is a fault that has just...

Fluke 1652 Not Tripping Rcds Anymore.

I've had my 1652 for donkeys years now - never had a problem other than the fuse blowing every now and then. Last week whilst attempting to do an RCD test - it blew the fuse. (£7.50 for a fuse? What a ripoff). Since then, it is not capable of tripping any RCD at all and the Ramp Test doesn't...

    C2. Potentially Dangerous.

Can I just confirm that a light in a bathroom with no RCD protection or Supplementary bonding would be classed as a C2 on an EICR. Thus making it potentially dangerous. .... or am I wrong?

Hello, Do Interlinked Smoke/Heat detectors have to be wired in series or can I spur off? Building control have decided they want more Heat Detectors after I've just finished doing what they originally wanted. ****s.

    Heat Resistant Lighting.

My customer wants me to fit a light inside his commercial cooker hood so he can see that hes not burning the sausages. Trouble is, it gets very warm under there. Are there any special requirements for hot areas or can I fit a standard IP rated Batten and hope the plastic diffuser doesn't get...

Can anyone recommend any decent heaters?

Hello, Can anyone recommend any decent and compact heaters to heat up a typical village hall? At the moment it has 6 wall heaters running from individual 13amp FCUs. These are the glowing red bar type that have little effect in heating the hall. I just need to swap them for something more capable.

    Metal Capping?

Just want to put this one out there... How many of you use metal capping or metal conduit to protect cables chased in walls? Is this a requirement when the circuit is protected by RCD?

RCD Tripping when Lights turned on.

Just changed a CU - all ok apart from SOME lights trip the RCD when switched on - SOME lights work fine. Any ideas?

    RCD for SWA?

If I use 4mm SWA from the house CU to a garage CU 2m away from the house, does the SWA need 30mA RCD protection? (The garage CU has 30ma RCD with 16A + 6A MCB). In short, do I need to RCD protect the SWA as well?

    No CPC on Lighting

Here's the scenario... Just put new CU in knowing that the lighting circuit has no CPC to light fittings and switches. So I followed the Best Practice Guide 1. (No class 1 fittings, no metal switches, warning on CU, deviation on EIC.) I thought the circuit had CPC in the loop but just not down...

Which Certificate for New CU only?

Hello Everyone, When installing a new Consumer Unit only, (including earth bonding and new tails of course) which paperwork do you lot give to your customers? I don't want to give an Installation Certificate because I don't want to be held responsible for Design & Construction. Also, it is...

    Exported Earth

I've just installed a new system in an out-building and originally exported the earth from the main building to my new DB. I did a check and found a PD of 0.1v between the new DB earth bar and the wall. So I TT'd the new system and the PD has gone. Now, I was always taught the 'belt and braces'...
