i think you will find its not just 73k in a year but if you go over 25% of that in any one qtr you will have to register, i also beleive there are problems if you are forced to register but invoiced people in that qtr without vat. it used to be the case that you had to re-invoice them with vat...
as i mainly do domestic I find it a good selling point and always mention I am not vat registered, as my labour is the biggest part of the bill they save a fair bit, if i mainly did comercial/industrial i would be vat reg for sure & as said above you can't have 1 vat reg and one not.
I did a TT job a couple of years ago the rod was giving about 30 ohms, when i did the Zs i got around 0.8 ohms on a RFC.
next door was pme and the bonding was using thier earth path, probably on both gas and water.
You need a bigger dimmer or split the 2 as you say, splitting may not be that easy.
you've got nearly 600w of light there so any single dimmer should be rated more then that.
or you could drop the wattage of the lamps.

we are getting about 4 calls a day from this lot, the problem is when we answer there is no one there. spoke to bt and they said that as the calls are comming from india there was nothing we could do about it.
