    rcd protection required?

c'mon steps, it was your post that implied I was fabricating a story. You know I am a 5ww as I have always been open about it, I know you cant abide us being part of the profession but please do not assume we are liars as well. ---------- Post Auto-Merged at 10:10 ---------- Previous post was...

    rcd protection required?

Absolutely gutted that some of the people here are implying I am a liar, assuming i am asking questions in the 3rd person when its for me, no, utter rubbish. Any previous post you read of mine will show that I have no issue with the fact that I am an electricians mate lacking experience and...

    rcd protection required?

We were driving back in the van just chatting about it, the regs were in the dash so I had a look and found nothing concrete. Thought I would just throw the question out and get a bit of feedback and now feel like I am having to defend my boss, ffs

    rcd protection required?

sorry, I am missing what reg is being referred to? Is he not just considering 'belt and braces'.

    rcd protection required?

I am pretty confident he does. I think his concern is the black swa in a dark environment where a builder/home owner might not expect to find/recognise it. I said that the swa is basically just meter tails and they dont need protection so why the swa, his reply was along the lines of 'tails are...

    rcd protection required?

In a domestic property my boss has used swa to go from the meter/isolator at the front of the property under the floorboards (cable resting on earth) and up in to the cu cupboard, a run of approx 8m. The discussion which we couldnt get the answer from the regs (maybe looking in wrong place) does...

    Earth spike query

    Earth spike query

I am working for a company installing pv at the moment, this weeks install has been on TNCS system and we are putting in an earth rod. When I asked why we were putting in a spike and not using the supplies earth the reply was along the lines of "if you lose the earth you will also lose the...

    'Signing off' requirements?

A couple of very small jobs have come my way which I am comfortable doing but what are the requirements for certifying work, I am presuming that there is something in place which prevents anyone from buying a pack of 'minor work' certs. Guy

What an NVQ is (apparently) considered as equivalent to in "old" quals

Sorry but it is a 5ww, I did 2330 level 2 and 3 on a fast track course last year, started early May and finished Nov time so not actually 5 weeks but I believe it is an expression used to cover all short courses. ---------- Post Auto-Merged at 22:42 ---------- Previous post was made at 22:33...

What's the thoughts of a fully competant Electrician when he/she is told they are getting an apprentice?

Make sure that you do the simple things correctly like working safely, being tidy, clear up throughout and at the end of the day etc etc. These actions should more then make up for the extra time that it takes to explain something to you. Don't be afraid to tell someone that you didnt understand...

    Advice on

With reference to the trench, school summer holidays are just around the corner, ask around and I am sure you will finding a willing lad that wants to earn some cash in hand. Your retired, surely a kettle and beer fridge in the workshop is whats its all about :put the kettle on Guinness

    Advice on

Get it done properly mate, the money spent will add more value to your property in the long run, armoured cable in a trench is a lot better/safer than surface plastic conduit! Plus with a permanent feed you have a heater and kettle in winter and a beer fridge in the summer :D

What an NVQ is (apparently) considered as equivalent to in "old" quals

We all know the general feeling about some of the city and guild quals, especially the 5ww wonder stuff such as 2330 but now NVQ is gettting shredded, are there any quals that are actually respected, maybe 2391 i&t or is an apprenticeship finished in 80's and over 20yrs experience the only...
