Wooden Bending Block - how to?

Hi all, Currently bored at work and have been trying to make an old-school conduit bending block from wood. I have a block of oak about 10cm x 5 cm x 1.2m, is it just a case of drilling a 20mm hole in it? I experimented with a hole on a 30 degree angle but the bend was poor and kinked...

    recently qualified electricain advice

Hi youngsparkie, I'm 25 and did an Installation apprenticeship like you, I stayed with the company for 3 years after my apprenticeship. I luckily got a break in a cement terminal which handled rail tanker and ship operations, quick learning curve but I'm glad somebody took the chance on me. Now...

PVC Conduit around a 90 degree bend.

Got to agree with you there. Something about inspection elbows just screams DIY to me.   Back to Back 90 would look much better.

    Delta High leg?

Hi,  At work today I was in a 3ph+N panel which is fed from a 250kva transformer. I was getting 210V Between All Phases, 110V from R & S > N, 185V from T > N. Is this some form of delta high leg system? the equipment and transformer originally were designed and built outside the UK.

    Ex Zones

I'm not trying to do anything. However our site has Atex areas and I need to ascertain whether the company should LEGALLY be paying/providing training.

    Ex Zones

Hi, Can somebody tell me if it is legal for electricians to work in ATEX areas e.g. Zones 20,21,22 with no competence training such as the CompEx 05&06? Thanks.

    Conduit around cylindrical structures

It's the big micc I enjoy looking at, it's incredible to see, ripped loads of it out at Llanwern.  Can't even imagine wrestling with a 1H240

    Conduit around cylindrical structures

I work only on this site so the labour rate isn't really an issue and apart from a pyro, conduit is the second most satisfying work to do IMO.  Maybe I should have been a plumber?

    Conduit around cylindrical structures

They are large, approx 100m circumference and have a bund wall which is where the lighting will be going to allow for maintenance work on internal pipework. No need to be Ex rated and I still prefer rigid conduit for these applications rather than copex personally.

    Conduit around cylindrical structures

Nope, I've done it before. Just a bit tricky this one as its all got to be bent and threaded on the floor outside.

    Conduit around cylindrical structures

Hi all, Thinking of running some 25mm galv around the inner skin of our large silo's for lighting.  Problem is getting the bends spot on because I've got to make it up all outside and cart it in. It requires lots of little small deg bends to get the arc right. Apart from the usual way of...

    AM2 EXAM HELP

I did mine in 2012, it was pretty straightforward. Do the pre-am2 day if the centre does one. It was invaluable for me as it showed little things like the cable tie on data point  - you would fail if you didn't put it on.

This is pretty standard even for a 47mm back box and 10mm cable.

    Class 2 consumer units

I hope so, that would get rid of the chancers in the industry.  Pyro installs are the most satisfying jobs in the trade IMO

    Reducing Condensation

Fairplay, I'll give the drain hole a shot on a couple of units to see.

    Reducing Condensation

Better than nothing, that's where the silica gel comes in. As for a drain hole, well that's not ipx7 is it?

    Reducing Condensation

I'm just going by this http://www.wiska.com/en/products/cat/313/venting/ Drain plugs will be ideal for some of the vertically mounted units however most are mounted on the horizontal plane and there is no suitable space/place to site a drain plug hence vent plug on these.

    Reducing Condensation

Appreciate the replies, I think I'll try the Wiska Vent Plugs and possibly get some silica gel from RS as @Canoeboy mentioned and see where we go from there. Cheers
