Adding a piece on during a rewire

Work is currently underway and new contractor is taking photos as he goes around to include in his report. C1 left us in a complete mess with bare live cables in numerous places, light switches hanging out of the wall with bare cables behind, and we have a child in the house!! Can't thank this...

Adding a piece on during a rewire

I think what they meant was that contractor 1 had done half a job of bonding, so connected everything without actually earthing it. C2 and C3 don't know each other so id be surprised if they were both spinning me the same line. I think it's more likely my interpretation of what they told me...

Adding a piece on during a rewire

I hope they see it too. It's been a very stressful time for us but having had 2 further contractors look at his work we're glad we took the loss and sacked the first one. Just wish we'd done it sooner. For example (and please excuse my lack of technical knowledge) he "bonded" the boiler with...

This forum was invaluable. Really helped open our eyes. do I hit "scoob" to give thanks or hit the "up" arrow, or the "tick"?

Adding a piece on during a rewire

Just thought I'd update you all as you've been so helpful. following the comments we received we decided to get a second, and third opinion. We'd pretty much had enough of contractor 1 who continually wanted more money to continue the work (even tho we paid the full bill up front) which as we...

Adding a piece on during a rewire

Gosh I've read that 3 times and I'm still not clear what it means. Having said that the wiring was dangerously faulty and kept blowing fuses (old style fuse box), hence the rewire. Having started the rewire the contractor has found any number of faults in the current installation and numerous...

Adding a piece on during a rewire

Gosh that sounds serious. Is it such a serious matter? (Genuine question by the way, I know nothing about electrics)

Adding a piece on during a rewire

I posted on the other forum before I found this one which appeared to be more active, so posted here second. I think the best suggestion of resolution came from this forum too.

Adding a piece on during a rewire

Thank you for all the comments. The agreement has all been verbal unfortunately - something I shall not do again, lesson learned.  The contractor mentioned new properties require the sockets at new higher level but the rewire didn't require it. I said I would like to go with new height anyway...

Adding a piece on during a rewire

We're part way through a full rewire and the vast majority of cabling is now in. We had asked for the sockets to be at new regulation height but for whatever reason we came home to find them all at skirting level. No big deal we thought and left them to it. However 2 bedroom sockets have been...
