The difference between the Import and Export readings of my Solis inverter and my smart meter readings, according to Octopus, seem excessive, particularly the import readings in the summer months.
Has anyone else had similar disparities? Is this normal? I understand that smart meters are...
Thanks Binky - yes I doubt I’ll bother with it in future but would like to see how well it operates in practice first. Can I assume the batteries can be left on then?
I agree about the worth of doing it, but I am intrigued at the idea and would like to explore it, plus knowing how to safely isolate the solar system temporarily is a bonus for me🙂
Ah - good point, looks like the batteries are connected via an isolator switch directly to the inverter. So, I assume if the Ac isolator is off, the inverter is off and the batteries are no longer being charged, which is OK.
I have a Solis hybrid inverter and battery storage. If I want to turn off the PV for a few hours to maximise draw from the grid(Octopus plunge pricing) is it acceptable to just turn off the AC isolator?
I kept one! This is from Offshore Nile Delta sometime in the 2000's (Sedco Express I think) It was an Oceaneering ROV that sent a bunch of them down in a small cargo net - only 715m water depth but already less that half size.
Might have been you, John?:)
I’m requesting quotes for installing a multi outdoor ac unit on the house wall to cool 2 rooms indoors. One quote received so far proposes installing a 20A mcb fitted to spare slot on box currently providing power to a workshop in the garden and seems a sensible way to go.
Another installer...
Thanks - I had been there in my Googlings and I note the statement on the website:-
"There are wide differences in pricing ranging from £220 to £600 per annum, with contract terms between 1 and 5 years.
MOP charges are sometimes collected through your electricity bill although normally directly...
I have a SMETS1 meter that has been updated to allow tariff transfer when changing supplier. Currently with Octopus who are happily receiving 30 minute imporrt/export data from the meter.
I requested Octopus to install a Zappi charger. The respnse I received was :-
"Thank you for reaching...
Thanks for your comments John - that clears up my query regarding Eddi and AC units.
I'm reviewing Go and Go Faster tariffs to see how they might fit in with my future usage, although they are no longer as generous as they once were.
Glad to hear your DIY battery project has proved a great...
Related issue for me.
I have a 5.8 kWp PV array and a 6kW battery storage. Currently on Octopus Agile Export and Variable Rate Import.
I'm getting a PHEV in January - 18.1kWh battery and will install a Zappi to charge it.
Hot water is gas boiler heated immersion tank in airing cupbboard and...
I had the same experience with installers not replying to requests for quotes back in April. A simple pro-forma email would be all that was necessary, but seems they couldn’t be bothered. I appreciate they were probably working flat out, but…….
I believe you have to stay on an Octopus tariff for 30 days before changing again. Agile Export in the summer and Go in the winter sounds like a way to go.
Expecting Octopus to release their revised tariffs soon following the government’s announcement on energy tomorrow!
Yes - as you said.
System is 16 x 365 JASolar panels for a 5.84kWp output, 2 x Pylontech US3000c batteries with 6.75kWh usable storage and a 6kW Solis hybrid inverter.
I've attached the daily export/import data for the billed period.
I realise it will be completely different in the winter...
Just received the August bill from Octopus - attached is a sample page showing the export rebate for that day in 30minute increments based on the smart meter readings. There is a similar page for every day covered by the bill.
