    Wet room zones

Just wondering if anyone has opinions on wet room zones.  Been asked to quote to install a hairdryer in a wet room in a commercial office block (proper thing with a handset on a hose) IPX4. The room is quite large, don't know exact measurements as not been to look yet.  Anyway, the shower hose...

    What are the chances?

Had a fault on a double head lighting column other day (2x250w metal halide). As soon as i put the cut out back in, it blew the fuse. Tested absolutely everything, and everything clear. Changed all gear, ballasts, ignitors and capacitors, put a new 6A fuse in cut out, blew again. Connected one...

I heard Chris Eubank has just released a new book called "Ethics". Is apparently a follow up from his previous one called "Sussex"

    Improvements before a board change

Hi Guys, Was wondering if someone could shed a bit of light on this situation. A spark went round to my father-in-laws other week to carry out initial inspection before changing his board and flagged up some problems. 1, Shower pull cord hanging into zone 1. Gave a code 1 2, Supplementary...

    Really hard water

Does anyone have any opinions or experience of scale inhibitors? Our water is ridiculously hard and i'm sick of descaling everything. Do those magnetic/electronic inline jobbies actually do anything or are they just a scam?

    RCD Testing

Hi all, just wondered if someone could clarify whether it's acceptable to test an RCD at the device itself or if you have to test at the extremity of the circuit. Just wondered due to access restrictions to sockets on site. Thanks.

    Burglar

Bloke phones police in middle of night and says "I think there's a burglar trying to get in my back door." Copper on phone says "OK sir, we've no units in the area at the moment but we'll send someone as soon as possible." Bloke phones back 5 mins later and says "Don't worry about that...

    Certificate or not?

Hi all, does anyone know if it is a requirement by law or any regulation to issue an MWC or EIC for work carried out solely in commercial premises not adjoining a dwelling. My boss doesn't seem bothered and i'm trying to put my case forward to him. Surely you take responsibility for a circuit if...

    Uprate or not?

My mate came across a lighting circuit today in commercial premises which originally fed 12 100w HP sodium fittings on columns, each with their own cut out. Someone later (don't know when) has then added a number of other bulkhead fittings (also HP Sodium) and now the 10 amp MCB is now up to its...

    Bonding of shower enclosure

Hi folks, just got back from a mates house for a few beers and was discussing his new bathroom. He has installed a new shower off his gas boiler (real fancy thing with thermostatic electronic mixer in loft) with a nice aluminium enclosure in his bathroom. As the enclosure is aluminium framed...

New to forum and have a quick question

Hello everyone, been in the game for 20 years and worked in commercial premises for all of them. Just in the process of connecting some car park lights to photocell control and would appreciate an opinion or two. I've got three circuits of lighting columns (one on each phase), one fitting on...
