hi people i am in the process of doin a 110v install in our new factory and will protecting a bank of four sockets with either an rcd or rcbo, which would best an i presume they will have to be double pole.any advice would be v.helpful cheers

Well as they are both different devices then whichever one provides the correct functions I would guess would be the one to use?

Or maybe get management to assign the job to someone else as HSE won;t like employees designing things without sufficient skills.

rcbo it is then, will prob go for the eaton pod and use type d mcb as there will be a lot grinders being used on the shop floor.cheers

Eh?

What you mean is you haven;t got a clue what an RCBO is and shouldn;t be allowed to play with wires.

its a 400kva transformer. when management came round our last place and did an audit they requested rcd protection on all our 110v stuff which is a pain in the back side but as lurch pointed out i dont want the hse on our backs so we were just wondering which route take as they pretty much insist they are protected.cheers

Well id check with the manufactures of the rcd, most require 100 volts minimum. You only have 55 volts.

When I worked in a meat factory, we had a visit from the HSE and they wanted us to put RCDs on our 230V remote water pumps for our jet guns.

This apparently was for in case some one directed water at a 400V socket-outlet.

We just nodded and said of course and did nothing.

Perhaps you should suggest to Management that they instruct a suitably qualified person to audit the electrical installation, rather than making ill informed decisions that have no practical use?

Seems strange having RCD protection on 110 volt supply I thought the idea Of 110 volt was so it was safe and no need for RCD protection. Maybe buildings sites will have to start having RCD's on the 110 gear.
