Can anyone please remember which piece of legislation this was originally in.

I thought it was in the old Factories Act, but, I can't find it.

There were diagrams and everything.

It could be the old Electricity Act?

Anyone please?

Thank you Ruston, I found that document, but did not notice the references on the RH column on the first page as they don't appear on screen here unless you scroll right!

I know it's not in EAWR, so it must be in the "Electricity (Factories Act) Special regulations 1944".

I can't find this online though, I have to apply to the National Archives it seems for a quote to supply.

£8.24 to see if they can supply it, then they quote for supply.

£8.24 is not refundable! ;(

It's a pleasure . I thought it was the Factories act too, and you are correct about scrolling the PDF.

I worked in an old factory and vaguely remember the reference to this on an old display board. This was back in the early seventies.

A good bet might be your public library , if you still have one.

I think there was a reference on here recently as to useful information available from Newcastle library . I think it was available online.

There are a few online sources for info, but according to the official National Archives it is only available through them.

I was already going down the local library route when I come to the NA dead end.

They have you by the short and curly's  then.

You could try  Trade Union archives.

If you have been in one you are entitled to their services.

Interesting!

does this apply even if you are no longer a member....I was in the EETPU and its predecessor for years, but not now
It will depend on the union and how you left,; eg retirement -redundancy, but usually yes.

Check with them . It is worth a try.

Being a convenor I don’t suppose telling Eric Hammond where to stick the proposal to merge with the impoverished AEU improved my standing with the union.

The link to Warwick university could be very useful.

Thank you Ruston

You know me , anything to help. :)

I know what you mean . It can get quite 'diplomatic' at times.
