I'd run the SWA into an enclosure (buted up to the CU) and run it straight through and into the CU..

You want as few joins in the cable as you can get away with!!

If you can get a box right upto the terminals of the meter, you could terminate into that then cores directly into meter?

Could you terminate the SWA into a IP box butted up against some henly blocks??

that would be MCB that trips. and if a lamp failing trips an MCB, then you have designed the system incorrectly (unless it has to be B type for EFLI). use a C6 and your done

No mate, RCDs tend to trip off on lamp failures.

cant say thats ever happened to me with standard GLS lamps

I would terminate SWA into a Merlin Gerin Enclosure fit a 63A Double Pole Mcb and then tails into link box.

This also acts as isolation and protection to SWA.

Hi, Oracle, if I was doing that job it would be a 2way garage unit with RCD main switch and 2 MCBS . Nice and simple. Any tripping out , the rest of the house stays on anyway. If they don't want you to change the existing C/U you can't make them.

binky & andy, your missing the point. Yes i agree that its better to have the Domestic smokes 'connected to a commonly used lighting circuit' the point is it doesn't say '& sockets' which would happen if you use a common Rcd. Lights rarely trip Rcd's , but socket circuits do. As i have said loads of time this should not be down to money. High integrity boards are available for this reason. A Rcbo costs as little as
