been to a property today with 2 cutouts, one for its own board and meter, and 1 for what i presume to be next doors, has anyone else come accross this before?? Seems strange to have the cutout in your next door neighbours house

nope, rushing in I thought it was a fused neutral pulled it and everything in the house stayed on, went to replace and there was a big crack with a lot of load. Slightly traced the tails out and found they seem to go next door

Could it have been a property that has been split/joined/modified, to/from individual property to separate flats or houses....?

Got a large property not far from me that is now two houses...

the main incoming water stop tap still does both properties although they do each have a secondary stop tap when it enters their side of the house...

(poses a slightly off tangent question about which bit you bond too???)

I can't remember how their electric went, but I think they did have separate Cut outs & meters each in their own halves.... :|

Or as Deke says are they old (terrace) smaller houses where they share a common incoming cable from street?

How big are the properties?

:|

I would have done one of two things:

  • Popped into next door and ask if her leccy just went off.
  • Popped into next door and explained the situation and asked if it was of no inconvenience to them, if I could have a quick look at their supply, which would take only a quick glance.

:D

I would have done one of two things:taken the fuse and gone home waiting for a call for the neighbour to say the electric had gone and then gone back replaced fuse and charged them

or

gone home anyway and still nicked the fuse :^O :^O

:D
Admin, your a naughty naughty boy, you know thats not very nice to do :^O

its more than likely a shared supply, i have the same thing in my flat...... it was done to reduce costs as far as i beleave but its not allowed to be done now a days...... strange how you could pull one fuse at a time though as the one i have is molded togeather with upstairs fuse so both go off at once

My neighbours supply splits from my supply head, and then runs underground about 20m to next door.

Last time I had the DNO in to sort out a prob, told me it was likely easier for the DNO in the 20's to run from my house than dig up the road or was a shorter run so saved on material costs

I've seen a split supply before but never from the fused side, supply was tns but couldn't see the earth going through to next door, so maybe nextdoor is tnc-s?

very much doubt its TNCS. most likely TT. seen this many times where a service head is fed from another service head
