Hi,

Been to look at a job at a Cattery. The customer wants a pathway lit from front of house round side to back of house. He wants approx 6 bulkhead fittings along the pathway but wants a pir either end to switch the lights on. How would this be wired up? Thanks

The switching part on almost every PIR I have seen is actually a small internal relay contact...

(You can normally hear them click when they physically switch on or off!)

{and you normally get the max switching load.. i.e. the current rating of the contacts}

Obviously they are a live contact that outputs 230v....

So all you are doing is wiring two switches to operate the same light or set of lights,

so that either can provide 230v for a set length of time (duration of the PIR) to illuminate the lights!

I have done Multiple PIRs onto lights several times..

Last one was 2 x PIR working 3 x Bulkheads...

e.g. 30x60watt lamps total load 180w switched by either of two PIRs rated at 500w max load...

Its no different than if you got a PIR to a lamp..

but also a manual switch to the same lamp...

either switch will put the light on..

but lights will only be off when Both switches are off!.

simples!

Thanks for all the help from everyone above. I've got this job coming up so wanted to ask your opinions.

The bulkheads will be lighting up a pathway about a meter wide. It's L shaped 20 meters forward then 15 meters left which is a pathway around from business driveway to Cattery shed. It has a strong featheredge fence with concrete posts.

The plan was to replace existing adaptable box which is currently in corner of pathway with a bigger one then feed the pits either end with 4c swa then from adaptable box out to the bulkheads.

The customer wants the bulkheads either mounted on fenceposts (which I think will be difficult as they've got rebar in them and won't drill easily) I was planning on either mounting the bulkheads on the fence or making a wooden backboard up for the lights which would be stronger ?

Would you gland the swa into the bulkheads or into an adaptable box below then run flex to bulkheads ? How do you normally do this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Matt :)
