faster than your reply i suppose....i take it the one on the right is good????

I've had a hard day lads...

If this was a 1 way switch it would only go bang on 1 setting!

What is the switch doing?

where does the electric go? (remember it takes the path of least resistance....)

The first 1 the switch is connected directly to the neutral.

The second 1 is correct because the phase is switched then goes through the load and into the neutral.

If my understanding of this is wrong then I might aswell pack it in now Pray

That's right - It is connected to the Neutral. :)

Absolutely.

So there's more resistance for the load through the lamps so the current goes through the switch and gives a L-N short and bang!

:D

Of course

I do understand what you are saying

but what if the switch was turned off...

thanks again all.

if the switch was off nothing would happen!

the circuit is 'open'

it's easier to think of with a one way switch but the principal is the same

:)

The circuit would function correctley, only it would be permanentley live.

so if the circuit was connected up like this and the switch off,

the lights would be turned on....

For circuit 1: With the switch turned off(open) the lamps would be on and no bang should happen if it was wired up correctley. If you turned the switch on(closed) it would go bang.

Hope this clears it up for you.
