Ok I know the 2330 is supposed to end this month but the lecturer just informed me that now it might be staying -something to do with a wolfe report.

Anyone got further info on this cos I am wondering about whether to go onto the 2330 level 3 now before end of March or otherwise if the above is true I can wait a bit longer.

Not heard anything like that personally.

Still think changes are going ahead

yes this is true but only a possibility. if i were you i would register as soon as you can bear in mind that they have spent a lot of time and money on the 2357.

Well i have been told that they have decided to keep the 2330. And it is going to 23303 for paid mature students and 233037 for government paid apprentices but they are both the same course and can still be done as open learning - geez I wish they would make up their mind!

The current 2330-3 level 3 course is recognised by Summit Skills towards the Electrotechnical Advanced Apprenticeship Completion Certificate and is goverment funded. The new 2330-37 level 3 course is not goverment funded and WILL NOT be recognised by Summit Skills.

2011 sees the introduction of 2 routes into the Electrical industry. The newly accredited C&G 2357 NVQ Diploma and separately, the C&G 2330 at both levels 2 and 3.
So after all that carp they never got rid of the 2330 ?!?!??!

hello,

Thank you for your calll and I am sorry to hear your predicament, but fear that you have not been provided with the full information about the new diploma qualification, or indeed what the current industry requirements are.

The new competence qualification combines knowledge and performance units within its structure. The knowledge units can be achieved through study away from the workplace, for example in a college and you will be awarded with these units when you successfully complete the necessary assessments.

The performance units require evidence of performance and ultimately competence (the ability to apply the necessary skills and knowledge in the workplace, to industry standards). Some of this evidence can also be produced in a college through simulation but you must also be able to produce evidence from a real working environment as well.

Having employment in the industry provides the most readily available opportunities to generate this evidence, however, other means can be used as well, such as work experience with and employer, or voluntary working along with qualified plumbers..

There is little difference in terms of the new qualifications and what is currently required to meet the industry recognised requirements to become a qualified plumber. There are three qualifications involved - the level two and level three Vocationally Related Qualifications (providing the knowledge elements of the occupation), followed by the level three National Vocational Qualification (providing evidence of competence). In essence, to become recognised as a qualified plumber/electrician, you still need to produce evidence of competence, as you do for the new qualification.

The existing qualifications (level 3 VRQ and NVQ) remain available for registrations until 31 March this year, so there is still an opportunity for you to register onto that if your local college or training provider is intending to offer it after this. You would have until 31 March 2014 to complete them.

I do hope this helps.

Regards

And states fundable ( I have to pay myself )

It is an email sent to a person on a plumbing course, but still applies to electricians as we are all in the same boat all trade courses are under going the same changes.

As previously stated the old 2330 level 3 is 2330-7 and is part of the accepted "framework" the new 2330 level 3 is 2330-37 and is not acceptable in the accepted framework.

I have had this confirmed by Summit Skills by all means call them yourself to verify on 01908 303974.

It is City and guilds choice to keep 2330 running only they know the full reasons why, I am told by my college the 2330-37 is only available as an evening course . So maybe the new 2357 QCF is not available as an evening course.

This is a part of the email I recieved from my college:

Andy

I understand your frustration and must inform you that the 2330-7 L3 does end on 31st March but has been replaced by 2330-37 as of April 1st 2011. This is the same course but with a different number. This will only be available as an evening course on a non funded basis. This essentially has not changed from the way it is at the moment apart from being only offered as an evening class.

Regarding the 2356, this does end 31st March and is replaced by 2357, as I understand that some of the performance units are transferrable. I cannot confirm this as the details still have to be finalised.
