THe center were i done my 2391 they preferred you to use their own tester so try to find out so you are familiar if they insist on using theirs. the books you mentioned are spot on.
THe examiner was floating on my shoulder observing then goes over your submitted test sheets.
I did mine about 5 years ago at one of those intensive training places (4 1/2 days).. that's 3 1/2 days of going through the course work and 1/2 day written exam. The following morning I did my practical and used my own meter
From what I remember about the exam it's 3 hrs (closed book) and you do need to know your stuff.. When they want you to do circuit calculations they will provide the appropriate tables, but you need to know the formulas..
The practical consisted of 3 boards if I remember..
th 1st one was a visual inspection board where you have to identify 12 faults, the second one was the ELFI board and the 3rd one was the dead testing board, with faults I think and you need to identify them and give reasons for them.
All the time you are filling out EIC's and the examiner is watching what you are doing
Oh yes... it takes them about 3 months to get the results out!!
Take some decent hand tools, the ones they supply are hopeless. Dont forget to prove the voltage indiucatoe before testing the board for isolation and then prove it again after.
They do expect you to have decent knowledge of testing procedures so try to do as much as you can, even in your home (if confident enough to). See if you can gaet hold of as many past papers as you can as they repeat questions in first section of practical, the second half of the exam is where they give you examples of installations, 3 different ones on mine. You are then asked questions about certain tests and have to show all workings out.
