dunno why, I think Im overcomplicating this and have myself confused somehow,

just to make sure, here goes,

I have a 3 wire 1ph reversible motor, with a capacitor across 2 wires,

Im thinking line to one side of the capacitor and neutral to the wire not connected to the capacitor,

if it runs the wrong way then swap the line to the other side of the capacitor........

I dont know why Im thinking this is wrong,,,,,,,,,,

maybe its the copious amounts of lemonade I had last night,,,  :C

i dont have a terminal box, just 3 wires coming out of the motor, :|

a capacitor is across two of the wires, permanently connected, then a 3rd wire on its own,

wires 1 & 2 have a capacitor across them

resistances are

with cap disconnected

1&2  38.3

1&3  19.2

2&3  19.3

Have you had your meter calibrated ? :slap

Run and Start windings look to be the same so just swop the cap over and it should reverse

Internally the run and start are probably joined together as per my drawing and one lead is brought out

If the windings were different then with only 3 wires it would not be reversible
:C

its a fluke321 courtesy of MM so I dhould think so  X(

if this goes bang you owe me for a new motor,  :slap

thats probably about a fiver,  :|

Lemonade is no good for you Stepps , try beer.

Are you sure  there are 3 wires back  not 4?

I think there should be 2 wires in the N ........one from the run winding , one from the start winding .

IIRC  the L goes to the cap. & the run winding  so leaving the cap. in L , & swop the other to the N & the one in N to the L .

That should reverse the RUN winding   ( don't reverse both or nothing changes)

You could identify the other leg of the RUN  by disconnecting it  and taking a reading .

Its a long time since I did this I'm afraid .    You reverese either winding but not both  , the START has the  cap.in series and then usually a centrifugal switch which opens when it's running

Swop the u1 and z2 on my drg - leave the cap and mains where they are or put the L on z2 and take the cap from there to u1

I think :slap

How old is the motor ? Ie is it tooo young to smoke ? :slap

Upload to you tube and link here with the share link
it came out of Aggie's defunct tumble dryer, so probably cheap chinese carp,  :C

HTF do I upload to youtube?  :C

I'll do an edited video tomoz if I get time,

tbh, I thought I'd geared it down too much, [as in, that was the gearing that presented itself to me! ],

I was originally worried that it wouldnt be geared down enough.!

but, its not so easy to keep up with it if your trying to drink beer and smoke at the same time,,,,,,,,,

:slap
