would be nice to see some answers for the above. :p

could someone tell me theranges for the test meters used please?

thanks.

Have a go yourself and we'll mark you

Better than just being told the answers!

I can never remember these either... Doesn't the continuity meter go from 0ohms - 200ohms and the Insulation Tester go from 200Mohms to 0Mohms? It depends really because different meters have different test ranges.

Or do they mean 0 - 200ohms (Continuity) 250, 500 & 1000V (Insulation)?

Do they mean 15mA, 30mA & 150mA for the RCD tester? (times half, times 1 & times 5 respectfully).

What's the range on the others?

My brain is fried and I can't think straight. I am forgetting answers, so much to revise and so little time to do it in...

Some examples:

Q1. Where an RCD is used as supplementary protection against direct contact:

a) State the operating current requirements. (Ans= 15mA, 30mA & 150mA)

B) The operating time (Ans= 40ms)

c) State two times for an RCD BS EN60010 (Can't find that one)

d) State the type of test lamp that will not operate RCD's when used to probe between phase and earth.

2. State the factors of affecting the selection of cable conductor size in terms of:

a) Design Current

B) Voltage Drop

c) Thermal Constraints

Basic stuff that I have forgotten. Not good!

Admin.

dont take this for gospel im not 100% so if anyone knows anything thats missed out please add it:

> state one application for each of the following voltages in relation to the distribution of energy:-

230v - domestic lighting circuit?

11Kv - light industrial?

400/230v - commercial premises?

> with ref to BS7671 define 'electrical systems' -

look up "system" page 30 bs7671 2008

> state the safe isolation procedure -

1.permit to work

2.locate/identify circuit

3.inform personnel working in area

4.switch off circuit

5.check Approved Voltage Indicator in Proving Unit then test for "dead" (10 test 3ph - L1-E/L2-E/L3-E L1-N/L2-N/L3-N L1-L2/L1-L3/L2-L3 N-E) (3 tests single phase L-N / L-E / N-E)

6.Re-prove API is still working PU

7.Lock off

8.Tape and barrier off the area

9.Place warning signs

10.Link Phase to Earth

11.Proced to work

> name faults that may cause a switch start fluro luminaire not to work

loss of supply

faulty starter

luminaire fuse blown

mechanical damage to wiring

> state safe working practices necessary in terms of isolation

confirm circuit is safe to isolate?

Identify circuit to be isolated?

safely isolate and lock off circuit?

> what is 'on load' and 'off load' and give examples...

On load means it can be operated with current still flowing and connected to a load - i.e Circuit breaker

Off load means it should be operated when load is removed and current is disconnected i.e isolator

> draw various electrical symbols (back page of the OSG sleeve)

> state basic principles involved when undertaking fault diagnosis

an understanding of system/equipment used including description of fault from client

make use of your own and others expertise and skills

use a logical approach to problem and the "half and half" method to locate fault

> list test instruments and what they are used for

PFC tester - to measure Prospective fault current in kA

IR tester (high ohmmeter) measures insulation resitance in Mohms

Low ohmmeter measures continuity of conductors in ohms

RCD tester tests RCD function in ms

Eath fault loop impedance tester measures EFLI in ohms

PSCC tests prospective fault current

Polarity tester

Earth electrode tester

Approved voltage Indicator

Proving Unit

> identify documents to be completed following a periodic inspection and test

Periodic Inspection report?

Schedule of test result?

Schedule of inspection?

i think they are mainly for 302 paper i have heard 303 is similar though.I found this info in another thread from someone who has taken exams if anyone has ideas on the answers or any other sample questions any contributions are welcome B-):

List operating voltages for selv, sodium lighting, 3 phase motor?

State three considerations to be taken into account when rectifying a fault in a busy work area?

State three factors which may affect carrying our repair work on an installation which is in use (very similar questions I know)?

Name the three forms which would be completed upon completion of a periodic inspection , state who determines the length of time between inspections, who completes the paperwork, and to whom the paperwork should be given?

There was a schedule of test results with 3 departures from 7671 which must be identified?

for a Ze test:

state why the circuit must be isolated?

state the reason for disconnecting the main earth?

i can't remember the third...

There was a simple lighting circuit diagram with three faults on it which you must identify

There was a more complex circuit diagram of a 2 way with intermediate lighting circuit and three roses, again there were 3 faults to identify
I had exam last week and had same sort of questions !

others i can recall was- name the testers and there parameters of 1-ohms 2-megohms 3-KA 4-Ms

it also asked you to draw an earth fault path on a tn-s system and draw a polarity test on a lighting circuit

it also asked for the correct sequence of the first three test.

tip ... loose connection is always a banker on most fault questions

and 3 factors for any repairs in industry/busy places are cost of repair or replacement, availability of parts, downtime, and time of doing job ie weekend ,holidays, night time etc

also had the same isolation question but answere can be easier for full marks.

1 isolate at a suitable point

2 secure the isolation by suitable means

3 verify correct operation of the voltage tester

4 test for dead at the point being worked on

5 verify that the voltage tester still works

6 employ additional safety measures

you could add more but thats the requirement in the amicus guide to the inspection and testing of electrical installations

Hi all,I know transmission, how to make an area safe, safe isolation and test procedures might come up but has anyone already sat the exams? Does anyone have any sample questions for L3 302/303 written exams or any idea what to revise?i have both exams next week and I want to make sure that I have them covered. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers
i just had 302 exam thought it was quite easy got 301 in 3 weeks any advice ?
