Why are some light fittings restricted to catering for a maximum of 60w bulbs?

I am genuinely intrigued as to what other possible reasons you would suggest Damien...

It's usually to do with the heat rated temp. of the fabric shades &/or the lampholder.

Why are some light fittings restricted to catering for a maximum of 60w bulbs?

It's a greenpeace consipricy with the major manufacturers. They limit the light output and save Wales if I understand correctly.

So if you don't want to save the Welsh then fit 100W lamps. Sparky999 always fits 150W lamps but he has a vested interest in keeping his station open.........

I didn't have one. I was just curious why they wouldn't accept upto 100w bulbs.

Heat , Damien, heat . A lot of the fittings around these days ( China specials) would probably melt after half a day with a 100W lamp in them.

I thought the 60watt bulbs were only permitted now to stop all these younguns playing their loud light fittings after dark...

100watt or 150watt were deemed too noisy and a bit antisocial..

wasn't it in approved document 'E'
