6mm SWA on a catenary

I would depend on the strength of the caternary really.

If strong enough to take the cable a bit of ice loading and the wind load then yes I would say it is OK.

make sure it has decent fixing points. may have a large bracket, but if its only held by 2x inch 8's then it wont last...

Like said above, I think catinery wire can take quite a lot, it's the fixings that will go first!

Ive mounted 16mm swa no issues, just ensure the fixings are adequate. The other important factor is the length, are we talking a few meters or many?

It was only about 3 meters, I think the brackets were secured using some quite hefty bolt type fixings....

I have mounted 6mm swa on a catenary to supply a detached garage before now and believe it's plenty strong enough over this kind of distance (provided it's fixed properly at each end to good substrate).

In the future I would probably use 6mm 3c H07RN-F for this kind of application and only use swa if there was any danger of mechanical damage (although in such instances you'd be trying to get it higher up anyway).

A customers garage (Mot & repair) has a load of 16mm Tw&e on catenarys running across his yard. Cant do anything about them as they are for other units, not his and the landlords property. When i first went there one cable was only about 7ft of the ground across the vehicle entrance and they use to lift it with a broom when a van came in ray so we welded an extra bracket to get it higher as the landlords very old and a freind of the garage ( read that as trying to buy the place).

cant see the problem myself with twing and earth, as i cable tie twin and earth to the catenary wires when i install the christmas lighting, it works dont it :slap :^O :^O
