I'm contemplating making use of a roll of 7-core 2.5mm sq armoured I have as in it seems a pity to NOT make use of it. It came off site where it was used as a temporary feed to some plant and I asked and was given it. Hypothetically could I pair the cores up to give 3 x 5mm sq? I was thinking sleeve them brown / black / grey then fit bootlace ferrules over the twinned 2.5's. I know some of the larger armoureds are done like this to make for easier handing. Before I even consider it (length of run, installation method, load) I'd need now it's current carrying capacity in this configuration - obviously more than 4 and less than 6mm sq but pretty sure that just doubling the rating for 2.5mm sq is maybe not the way to go! Any thoughts? Many thanks.

i would say that would be classed as 32 amp max tbh ;)

think of a ring main or final final circuit

Is that a ring main badge or Ring final? :)

parallel conductors I would say,

Id be dubious about putting 2X2.5 into one ferrule unless its specifically designed for that purpose.

oh, CCC,

work it out using grouping factors,

ie, if 1X2.5 can carry 20A then calc how much you need to derate it if beside another carrying 20A, will depend a lot on VD as well along with installation method.
