Sadly this is likely to fail given all the junk bought from the Far East and brought into the UK every day

Great idea.. But this is probably going to be as successful as building a sand-wall dam to stop the rising tide from reaching your beach towel...

Even with a big enough spade and a lot of people digging, the only outcomes are either:-
(1) Eventually a wave or two will creep around the side of your dam..
(2) A big wave will just come straight over the top of your dam..
(3) If you have been lucky enough to catch the high tide when it is turning and it wont be coming up quite as high for a couple of weeks, then you can have a bit of a breather!..
(4) Either way eventually a high flood spring tide will overcome the dam!..

Possibly the actual solution is to somehow teach people not to purchase cheap Chinese electrical Tat!!??
