JOINT INDUSTRY BOARD

for the Electrical Contracting Industry

Proposed New Agreement

The JIB is currently receiving many telephone calls about letters sent to employees of the following JIB member companies: Bailey Building Services, Balfour Beatty Engineering Services, T. Clarke, Crown House Technologies, Gratte Brothers., MJN Colston, SES and SPIE Matthew Hall.

These contractors propose to introduce a new agreement to replace the current agreements which define the terms and conditions of their employees. This would entail new terms and conditions which would replace the JIB, SJIB, JIB-PMES & H&V Agreements.

The proposed agreement is currently being created outside the JIB National Agreement and without the support or backing of the ECA or Unite the Union. Consequently, the existing JIB Agreement, in its entirety, will continue to apply to JIB member companies and their operatives representing, as it does, the longstanding partnership between the ECA and Unite the Union.

Letters providing further information are currently being sent by the JIB to member companies and to their employees.

looks like the big boys dont want to pay JIB rates anymore?

Interesting that, Leopold, Some of the biggest firms in the country there blowing out the JIB . It is them who fund them of course , JIB will be fighting that .

I always thought the JIB missed an oportunity when Part Pi$$ing Pee came in by not using their grading scheme as a benchmark . We were already graded in skills levels .

However I guess with the increase in self employment in our trade they have lost individual members .

Bit like myself when I went into supervising and estimating ,I kicked the old EEPTU into touch . ( They didn't want to know contracting sparks anyway, just the industrial guys)

Thats a good point Wozzer , I was just thinking of them not paying their JIB/ECA /Union dues .

looks like some interest, the thread growth is modest but it's not enough and i doubt it ever will be enough

the sparks are trying to rally together enough to block it by the use of a union

I hate to point out the obvious guys,

but the union is dying on its feet,

and, the bottom line is this,

if they (the members) dont want to accept the money they are being offered, one of 2 things will happen,

1 they will be out of work cos some will do it cheaper

2 they will be out of work cos their employer has gone bust

times are hard folks, even big businesses are struggling.

The electrician's union is that little known I had to ask on here some years ago as to which one sparks are in now .

Wheeltappers and Shunters I think it was.

Do you reckon they want to go like the buiding trade and employ all subbies with just a small supervising staff .

Because if I remember correctly, under terms, a JIB/ECA firm is not allowed to use subbies other than specialists like jointers etc.

I was a member in the AEEU days but it all changed when they decided union officers should be "suits" rather than people from the shop floor then merged with other unions (I think it was the Amalgamated Union of Vivisectionists & Lolly-pop Ladies). I left a JIB company, asked the Union what the subs were (It's paid for you on JIB firms), never got an answer, just a letter asking when I left my current employer...

I hope they go down the pan TBH,

years ago the JIB threatened me that I would NEVER again work in the UK if I left and didnt complete my apprenticeship under them,!

when I came back to the UK a few years ago(and I mean about 5 yrs) I could get my card and stuff for

Nice to see.

About time the out dated JIB had some industry resistance. :Applaud

Viva la revolucione
I know about the ciggies Deke,

how else do you think I could cope without them an the special brew though? :|

anyway, the asbestosis will prob get me first anyhow, or some other horrible disease they have now invented that didnt exist all them years ago,!!!!!!!!

Too true steps. IMO the unions are making things worse by encouraging people to strike ( especially those in public sector ) just because there is a change to their pensions or maybe a freeze on their wage! Well at least they still have jobs ffs! I worked for a jib company until last year when they laid a few of us off, but kept using subbies. When I said they can't do this I was told they aren't breaking any law. Prior to this we hadn't had our annual wage increase that keeps it in-line with jib rates. W*nkers!
When I worked for JIB firms it was understood that you couldn't use subbies at all but could have sparks on loan from other JIB firms . Subbies were used of course but it was kept quiet.
