that's why we have 'number of points' on the cert as a form of evidence.

Lets be honest DiYers work is usually quite obvious, and your own work ends to be done in a certain style, but it still leaves the onus on you to prove that.

I have considered potographing entire jobs.

Really?

I tend to photography CU's, cover off and on ........ mainly for checking details for the certs I'm doing but these can come in handy .............

Now Phil, you are not so far from the truth, you were guilty in the eyes of the law, before conviction.

The burden of proof is reversed in H&S law.

What electrical bods do not realise is that even in domestic works they are fully bound by the requirements of EAWR at all times, even after they leave.

Along with HASAWA.

The QS in the Emma Shaw case IIRC was charged under HASAWA §7, "you are responsible for your acts and or omissions whilst at work" or similar wording.
Exactly, and that is what worries me, I think it's mainly the younger sparks that fall for it, they either feel pressured to meet the ridiculous deadlines set by their bosses, or they feel important because they are doing the testing, and don't want to be taken off the job. I've mentioned it before, but I remember packing in a job with one firm after the MD told me I needed to sign off around 5 new builds a day," do a proper test on one, then just alter the figures slightly and write out the sheets for the rest" was his response when I said it couldn't be done. I jacked that job straight away.

Not all forms of cert have 'number of points served' on them iirc, even when they did I used to add a note in the comments box, something like 'upstairs ring 8 twins and 2 singles, downstairs ring 15 twins and 4 singles, just in case someone decided to change a single for a twin, on one job I was so concerned about the client messing with the install, that I even noted that all accessories were white plastic!

Perhaps we should mark all accessories we install with a batch number in uv pen?
To be honest, at one point I considered getting some of that tamperproof paint stuff and putting a drop on one of the cover screws on each accessory.

hum ............ you take your car for an MOT and it passes ......... 1 month later the front tyres are below the wear limit ............. is the MOT station to blame ............. no.

A installation certificate reflects the situation on the day............ not 3 years later, not after DIY Dave or Plumber Paul have had a fiddle.

Yes, but that's the problem, people don't understand the consequences of getting it wrong, yes DIY Dave, will happily alter electrics, but if it all goes wrong and someone could be looking at a jail sentence then you  can bet he'll do all he can to stick the blame on someone else.

Couple of years ago got a call back, several months after doing a job ..... got there and immediately noticed another mcb in the board ..... instantly my charging clock started ..,.

customer didn’t tell me who did it, but the new circuit was the issue ....... he paid my bill no questions asked.

you can’t get up every day worrying about something that may not happen .....
