I've no idea but just be careful as i was speaking to a couple of asian/ muslim electricians last year and they were badly stung in dubai so they came home.
However, I am not saying that is the general consensus and dont want to tar everyone with the same brush so to speak.

what do you want to work at?
Qatar is basically a reworked 7671 standard,
but,
a lot of work is outside that scope,
if you want to work in the fields you need a lot of quals, and a lot of experience/know someone in the know.
if you are going blind you need a really good package!
the money might seem a lot but the cost of living is extorionate!

still money to be made though, but as I said in your other post afghan or somewhere is your easiest choice for a first time,
the work is hard, the conditions harder, and the rewards not as good as you may think for what you are doing,
but if you are young and have no issues then go for it.
oh, as a last thing, if you tell them you cant go til next year chances are they will just bin your CV, they will want to ring you on a Tuesday and tell you to be somewhere on the Thursday for an induction to fly on the Friday!

Depends on your quals most companies want JIB with 2391 as a minimum.
I'm looking at doing the same as this countries shot to bits, Afghan, Libya or Iraq/Kurdistan seem favourites at the moment
Australia you can do a transfer course to be a licensed electrician (if you have the right quals), Dubai is a dump, imo. Again it all depends on quals experience if you have the right combo the worlds your oyster

experience is much more in demand, and by that they NEED proof, minimum 10years usually if you want to start as an electrician, otherwise you will normally be something else,
and without a minimum of 5 years you deffo wont get a licence in OZ or Kiwiland, BTW, you have to be there[Oceania] working under supervision for at least a year before you can get your own licence anyway!
Iraq has gone now, full of idiots, have a look at any recruiters site, they have folk on standby for iraq, kurdistan- still in the dark ages and waiting to be dragged out, that wont happen till some big oil company puts the cash up for foreign workers.

if you want to get overseas via UK agencies they are mostly want guys with containment at the very least, and 3ph as a basic, then it starts to get specialised.
but, to be short, you wont ever get anywhere with just a few exams and some housebashing,
why not jump on a plane and give it a shot? you never know.
other than that, you need some definate ideas as to what you want to try and somebody might be able to help you a bit more, rather than just being general and saying you want to work abroad,
you could always go to ireland, they are pretty similar to here, and might even give a HB a job, if there are any.

Steptoe you really come across like the character if I might say. You sound as though you have a deal of resentment either towards the trade in general or is it towards the younger generation? The lad is only asking for some general advice, perhaps he is looking towards a change of direction to what he has been doing. He did mention that he is looking ahead.
I do not necessarily agree that they require people with vast amount of experience as I know of young lads that have been out to some of these places with only the basic experience.
Have you been abroad working had a bad experience or something as you come across very aggressively, which could deter people from asking for advice again. Steptoe, I agree that it is not as it used to be in regards of making easy money, we may know/have experience of this, he may find this out for himself but if he is willing to give it a try then we can only point him in the right direction at this time.

just saying 'I want to work abroad' is too big a spectrum.
I suppose maybe Ive become weary of a lot of folk saying Im going to work overseas, but its usually only a pipedream for them and they never have the nerve to do it.

All I know is the people in Dubai don't like the flintstones but those in Abu Dhabi do..... :coat

If I was single then British Antarctica is where I would go. Money ain't great but what an experience - and skiing every day! Seriously though, this ain't the trade to make bagfuls of cash anymore - wherever in the world you go. I was offered close protection work in Iraq 4 years ago at 10K a month - would have taken it if no wife and kids. I think the key to working abroad has to be all about enhancing quality of life and gaining valuable life experience. Good luck in whatever you choose!

no, not at all sharpend,
been there done that, I just now have more important things in my life.
Ive never had any regrets about working overseas, or away from home.
I just feel that at my age its not something I could hack much off now anyway.
here is the place that most of the folks up for a bit of slave labour go to these days,
and to be truthful, I wouldnt go near them!
if you want to work abroad these days you need to have a clear aim, or else just sign up for some slave labour,
me, well I only came back to the UK just over 4 years ago, and , yes, I will probably be moving again soon, but I will decide where and when, and it wont be some half baked company treating me like dirt and sending me to a dangerzone, believe me, Ive worked in some of the worst as a younger man.!

I wouldn't say that Steps is exhibiting 'resentment' at all Sharpend. We don't all post in order to flame people but try and offer help, encouragement or even discouragement based on individual learning and personal experience. We are all here and there are lessons to be learned in every aspect of life and if we can shed a fraction of light based on our own experiences to someone who requires the 'knowledge' then that is to be embraced - the essence of a forum such as this.Now the picture is coming clearer!!!
