Hi all

I am a complete novice with alarms so I am looking for some assistance if possible.

We had to turn the power off last week and when we turned the power back on there was a continuous high pitched noise coming from the alarm box.

I have opened the box up and I have changed the battery but the noise will not go away unless I turn the power back off.

It appears to be a tamper alarm or warning alarm but I was wondering if anyone has come across this before and has any advice for me in dealing with the issue.

Any help would be much appreciate.

Thanks

Michael

Thanks for the reply.

I have checked the 3 fuses and they all seem in order.

Is it worth replacing them just to be sure?

No point if they are intact are you sure you just don't need to put code in to reset system? When you say you have checked the battery what did that involve?

Thanks for your response.

I took the original battery out and replaced it with a brand new one of the same make / model.

The battery is a yuasa 12v 1.2ah battery.

I then powered the system back up but the noise has persisted. I waited a few hours but the noise didn't go off.

You might be right in relation to a code to reset the system but the alarm actually works once the power is back on and despite the high pitched noise.

Thanks again for your help

I presume that you didn't install the alarm originally?

do you have the installation manual as well as the user manual?

do you know the engineers code as well as the user code(s)?

It's possible that you may need to put in the eng code (not user code) to reset the panel after a tamper.

http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Technical/DataSheets/Ade/4pi175_A-G3_inst.pdf

Or you may have broken the tamper loop while putting your new battery in...

so it will carry giving a tamper alarm till its fixed...

Some alarm installers will not divulge the eng code they set in panels that they fit...

So you have to pay them to come back to fix faults!!

So you may need to phone the installer...

Unless you do a complete reset wipe the setting and reprogram it again.

And, replacing a defunct battery with a flat battery won't have changed anything,

Batteries, afaiaa, come uncharged.

Sorry, but they come fully charged.

When a sealed lead acid battery becomes too discharged, they never recover. Some alarm panels if running on batteries (power cut) will "switch off" when the battery voltage falls below around 10.5v

I don't use lead acid batteries.

I've just checked 2 I have, both only have a small charge.

EDIT: I don't normally use lead acid batteries.

Many thanks for all of your help guys.

Unfortunately I don't have the engineers code or the installation manual and the noise is still persisting!

Very annoying!

The alarm was installed before I bought the house so I don't know who Installed it either.

The tamper loop looks intact but as I say I am not an expert at all.

Would you suggest asking an engineer to look at the alarm or is it better to do a complete reset and reprogramme? Would I be able to do this myself?

Many thanks

Michael

Your choice.

1) You need the engineers manual (You can download it) You need to be able to understand it. (Most take a few readings to understand them)

2) Call an alarm company.

When you do, ask them are they familiar with your panel, if they say no, say thanks and call another alarm co

They may offer you a contract to maintain it, read the small print.

Ask how much to come and look, too much? go else where.

An old trick is to say your panel is too old and no spares and you must have it changed to this one (one which they understand)

Don't call a national alarm company, way too expensive.

If someone else installed it they have most likely set it to need an eng code after a tamper fault...

Best bet is to wipe it all..

reset and start again reprogramming it as you need it...

Was the manual in my earlier link the correct one for your make of alarm???

I am in Liverpool. If someone was local that would be great

Yes the manual was the correct one for my alarm which is the 8SP 400 Accenta mini G3 panel with remote LED keypad.

Thanks again for your help
