Advice - 30Amp socket in garage for spot welder

Ive shamelessly registered for the forum to ask for some advise, hope thats ok.

I have a garage that is 55 metres away from the house. Power is supplied from the house to the garage by a cable marked 600/1000V 4x10 and then goes into a consumer unit like this.

I want to use a spot welder in the garage that is 230V and 50Hz and needs a 30Amp or 32Amp plug. Is the cable man enough for the job over that distance? Or will i need something bigger? Or can i just get one of theses fitted (link below) and it'll work?

nowhere near enough info.

but if the cable really is 4c10mm, then it may be adequate.

probably best call a sparky to look at it

I took a look at the distribution from the house, but to be honest i dont understand enough about domestic wiring to be able to give good information, so ill just ring a sparky. Thanks again.

If I'm reading that correctly it's a 4 core cable with each core being 10mm square.

Is that a steel wire armoured cable? and how is it connected?

What I'm getting at is are they just using one core for L and N and the SWA (or an earth rod) for the earth, or have they used two cores in parallel for L and two cores in parallel for N?

Anyway current carrying capacity won't be your limitation, but voltage drop might be.

Assuming it's just one 10mm core used then the volt drop will be 4.7mV per amp per metre so that will be 7.75 volts which works out a little over 3%

For lighting you are supposed to limit volt drop to 3%.

so it will work, but the lights will dim in the garage while you are using the welder.

If there really are 4 cores in the cable and it's possible to connect two in parallel for L and N then it will be even better.

But as already noted, best get an electrician in to look at it. The good news is he should be able to do it using the existing cable.
