Resting under the Major Oak.
They’ve starred this time. Two bottles each in a separate box which were placed in two more separate boxes. These two boxes were then placed in a larger box which in turn was placed in an even larger box.

Packaging has gone stupid these days, I had a remote keypad delivered, it wasn't much bigger than a 20's cig packet, yet it came in a box that was about 18 inches long, 10 inches wide and 8 inches deep, packed with those polythene balloon type things. However that was not the best one, I do a bit of work for a firm, if I need any parts then I just order them using their company credit card, it saves them having to do anything, I'd never take advantage of it as it's a position of trust.

I ordered some small parts from CPC, a few connectors and a PSU if I remember rightly, the whole lot was less than £20, well a couple of days later I get a call from the boss, asking what the hell I've ordered from CPC. Apparently this huge box has arrived in the office addressed to me, and for the first time he's become concerned about my spending, I tell him what it is and ask him to open the box, he refuses, it can wait until I go tomorrow!

I arrive at site the following day and am given this large box, about 2 feet, by 2 feet, by 18 inches, there is loads of packaging inside ( those polystyrene S shapes), we tip it out and lo and behold, we find another box, this time about 10X6X4, inside this is the parts I've ordered.

I sometimes wonder if the people who pack this stuff have some kind of competition to see who can send out the smallest item in the biggest box!

Tony, I contacted the company you placed the order with, apparently you tried to order some boxes, which they don't sell, in order to avoid disappointment they sent you the bottles, which meant they were able to send you the boxes after all.lol

I can see the logic in having standard sizes of boxes in a delivery van. Easier to stack and identify, plus less chance of losing that piddly little package that might fall off the back.

Anyway Tony, with all those spare boxes, may I wish you many happy returns. :)

Still now you are retired Tony you will have time to tidy up the shed and get stuff on eBay, so all those boxes will come in handy.

CPC are the worst for chucking small stuff in big boxes, but Farnell are the complete opposite. I have ordered mediumish sized reasonably fragile items and they just get jammed in a jiffy bag and arrive broken.

Screwfix don't like using any packing at all. I ordered a type A metalclad board and 2 white moulded USB sockets. They all turned up loose in a large box with the metalclad board rattling round with the sockets.

I put an order into CPC last week for a few each of all the various BNC type adapters, plugs, t pieces etc so we dont get caught out when away on the shopfitting jobs.  Later that day, around 3pm  i needed to order a hearing loop kit from them so phoned up & tried to get the orders combined. Although i just ticked standard free delivery the hearing loop kit arrived by courier the next day, in a box 5 times bigger than the kit. 4 days after that the earlier order arrived by Royal Mail in a box about 3ft x2ft x2ft with the handful of connectors in the bottom.
