Used some very handy metal fold over clips a while ago for Fire alarm cables that required installation inside Mini trunking. The clips fitted inside the Mini trunking fixed by screw that fixes the Mini trunking to the wall. Will try and find a link

We talking these we use them on fire jobies?

D line fire clips. I tried to post a link but am not allowed to

We got them from cpc, but is see CEF has something similar on the trade counter. Not cheep though.

So... Can we fix a fire resistant clip inside sticky yt2 to a plasterboard ceiling with a rawl plug? Do we need to start using self drilling plasterboard fixings through sticky yt2?

I've seen the question asked elsewhere but not seen an answer yet.

Ask the NIC....i am sure they will have an answer OR a course that you can go on that will NOT explain it

Just ....waiting for someone to decide

I'm employed, so boss would need to ask, and he's agency and doesn't care.

Feel like I'm urinating against the prevailing most of the time.

There were some tests done a few years ago and the results showed that red rawl plugs correctly installed did not constitute any failure under fire conditions.

So the answer to your question at this moment in time (remember testing and data collection can take years) yes you can.

Dont know as id fix to a plasterboard ceiling with rawl plugs anyway, i know some are supposedly suitable but metal redi drives are a much better solution for the most part.

I would never fix anything to plasterboard with rawl plugs, or even the cheaper plastic redi drivers.  Only ever use the metal redi drivers if you want things to stay on the wall.

I'm talking about clips inside sticky back trunking. Not light fittings or the like. I've never seen anything but red plugs used in the trunking, also never seen a problem caused by it.

I had no idea what redi drivers were  always called them plaster board plugs \ fixings!

The wall dogs look good! :)

Can't we use p clips? Might be an issue with 4 mm + cable though. :(

Isn't there a readily available solution that's not overly expensive and easy to fit? I do get the feeling we have been left to sort it out for ourselves :(

Am i mistaken? Just read an article re the need for metallic fixings which was suggesting that this is for all areas of wiring not just escape routes? Is this how we all understand this?

It will depend on the definition of escape route.

This requirement is not new it has been around for years, it was just not spelled out simply in 7671 until now so people were just ignoring it, even though it was a requirement under statute law.
