I have not been able to move off Windows yet due to the programmes I use, but, till working on it.

I did try AVGFree, but it updated and stopped working, and no matter what I did to remove it, I could not re-install.

So I tried Avast Free.

This has lasted about 2 weeks then it seemed to corrupt my Outlook.

So 5 hours later, I think I have got my Outlook working again, with Avast, I think, still WAIP, but getting there.

What do you all use for AV in Windoze, it seems to me the paid forAV's are as bad as the free options! ;)

I used bit defender (paid) for years, never had a problem! It's not as intensive as other anti virus.

Actually did 30 day trials of all of them at the time and chose bitdefender.

Been running apple for so long I had forgotten what a virus was but installed bitdefender free on my pc at work as yet no problems :)

I dont really know how it works,

but, is it possible to run it in a VM within a sandbox?

other than that Im about as much use as T1T5 on a boar when it comes to windows.

oh, when I did run win , years ago, I used kaspersky, if you use the 30day free trial and piss about with your date settings before you install it it will run forever as a free 30day trial,  :)

AVG free. Used it for years and never had a problem with it on Win98, XP or Win7 and I personally think it's underrated. I wouldn't use the paid version because I need a basic anti-virus and malware application not a babysitter that hogs resources. Avast is also fine though if you prefer it. I also use a sandbox for browsing which isn't an antivirus as such but I'd highly recommend it because the majority of exploits you're likely to encounter are web based. Use a sandbox for email as well if you think you need it but I personally don't. Whatever you use there's no substitute for plain old fashioned common sense.

Pretty much moved over to Zorin (Ubuntu) but on the Windows 7 pcs I do have then AVG free.

However..............I did pick up some malware/ a rootkit when I downloaded a prog to re-orientate some phone video clips. Malwarebytes didn't fix it. After much research the "fix" was to download "Spyhunter 4" that's paid for and tbh am well impressed. Runs regularly and keeps everything clean.

I use the free AVG and have never had an issue. Might be worth investigating why it wont work for you?

I have Rev, their support gave up helping me as I only had the free version!

I have manually deleted all the files related to AVG, even done a search of hidden & system files on the whole disk as an Admin in safe mode & deleted them.

Also deleted all AVG related entries in the registry.

Have run their removal tool and still no joy!

I have been using the paid version of Avast for 6 years with no issues, I run Office365 and use Outlook with no problems.

All I do know is the OS don't like two programs installed due to conflicts trying to monitor live.

I had McAfee and Avast for a short time, it was the cause of all my problems, not a problem since.
