Hi,

I have a washing machine and a microwave giving off a shock if I touch the sink. Both the appliances are plugged into seperate sockets. Any ideas as to the cause please.

Wonder if its the appliances at fault or the sink?

Could be a lack of bonding on your house electrics,

Or faulty appliances, (weird both being faulty though)

Do you know what type of electric supply you have?

Could you take a picture of your main electric board fuse and cable please?

TBH it could be a number of things, or a combination.

any one live in Blackburn area available to give this guy a hand if required ????

Is the immersion heater switched on when this happens ? Its often a faulty heater . But could be faulty wiring feeding your sockets.

Or vice-versa try turning it off , (I don't know if you are a sparks but you need one) buy a cheapo neon screwdriver and stick it on the sink , get someone to switch circuits off till the neon light goes out .

YOU NEED TO STOP TOUCHING THE SINK UNTIL IT IS SORTED !!!!

( Ducks into trench as the anti neon guys open fire)

If you are a Dark Arts Practitioner , shove your tester in the sockets .

I like this Deke,

my initial thoughts if the sink is not 'live' are a TNCS with a differing potential between sink(true earth) and appliances (supplied earth),

bvut that would involve a distance between Tx and supply and

[would be impossible as TNCS = PME! ] or could this possibly be the case?

BTW, Blackburn isnt a million miles from me, I work close by quite often.
