I've been asked to wire up a couple of automatic door opener/closers in a doctors surgery.....

at the moment I don't know if it includes the wiring of any door pads or safety devices and/or commissioning

There are a couple of problems...

a) its automated doors... I guess with the same problems that come with electric gates....... this is putting me off

b) it's a regular customer.... prob £800 a month (labour only)..... this makes me want to do it...

What do I do????

Having just had a similar fiasco at my current job, all I can say Noz there is little too them, so much so that I with no experience of them had to advise their installer how it needs to be wired!!

I would think that being in a public place then safety sensors would be a requirement, you will also need a finger strip up edge of door by hinges.

I know the feeling Noz...you tend to think , do want the hassle , its something I'm not familiar with .

But , usually speaking to the manufacturer, who normally supply back-up advice , things become clear .

Go for it , another string to the bow .

Look into it first , don't rush in blind.

You're a Sparky ...we can do anything!!!!

Years ago I went into overhead crane work ,    removing the old manual tram like controls from the like of 50 ton cranes  remove the cab ,  fit new control panel...fit tandem radio control panel ....driver then works crane from the ground  from model joysticks.

Hadn't got a Scooby Doo to start with  TBH .

First thing I realized was , the cables for a big slip ring hoist motor say,  in our world would be 16mm  say....on a crane , 6,mm at the most .

Reason was of course , the motor only runs for 2 minutes before stopping again .

To me it sounds like "commisioning" could be a right pain.... getting it adjusted right so that it opens without catching/binding etc, perhaps more so if they know it was others doing the setting up, rushing it, knowing if it takes a lot of faffing later, its not them doing it!

It seems an odd way of doing things, normally the door specialists are best placed to set them all up etc. I am wondering why they arn't doing it....

I think I'd tell them it isn't something I get involved in, but am happy to provide a supply and to install ELV cables with suitable containment to the points they need it for pushes, etc

Thankfully I don't work on job rate for them :)

but from what I gather the door kit goes through an automatic setting up cycle to find the correct torque for the motor, so it shouldn't be too difficult... (hopefully) ;)
