Although it was meant as a joke, it IS very very TRUE.

I would love to know some statistics, year on year, now much more the government has been spending than it's income, say over the last 30 years. THEN we will actually know which one of them was to blame for racking up all the debt.

I just can't get my head round the fact it's ALL blamed on the last labour government, and the present coalition really came to power to find a note saying there was nothing left. How could that possibly happen without anyone noticing?

Taking it back to simple personal finances, I have always lived within my means and made paying off the only debt I ever had, a mortgage, my number 1 priority. I have at the same time watched relatives, continually living on credit, regularly increasing their mortgage to fund buying a new car or an expensive holiday, always overdrawn, and always with full credit cards, in spite of them earning a great deal more than me.

That particular individual lost his house, after he paid off his debts he had nothing left from it and now rents a small place and struggles to make ends meet. God knows what he's going to do when he retires, that's IF he's ever able to retire. My mortgage is now paid off and I own my own home outright.

Oh how different this country could be, and how better the future could have been, if governments thought for the long term, not just what they could get away with to win the next election.

Trouble is Dave he eventually will be better of than you the country is geared up for people with no money and thats why the countries going broke. He will get everything paid for him while you will struggle.

Better still if your health should deteriorate , and I sincerely pray it doesn't, you will be told to sell your assets to pay for your care!! So what exactly is the point of buying a house??

Here's a little something to think about. The word mortgage is derived from the word mortuary ( death) and face is old English for grip. Put the word together and mortgage is deathgrip. A large percentage perhaps acknowledge that, you seem to have broke free with your frugal spending habits?
