Hi All,

I wonder if you can help me. Last week my tenant called me to say that plugging in her hair straighteners into the wall socket in the bathroom mirror resulted in the power being knocked out in the flat. She managed to fix the problem by resetting the circuit breakers.

However this weekend she said that the main bathroom light works, but the power to the mirror and lights is not working, also behind the mirror is a bathroom cupboard where the lights are not working either.

I have called out an electrician and he will look at it tomorrow, I just wondered if any of you helpful people had any suggestions on what the fault could be.

I have a photo of the unit but have not been able to attach it to this post.

Thanks

As Andy said,  Its probably a socket for a toothbrush/shaver of very very low power & not designed for any thing bigger. It must have been a foreign hair straightener with a 2 pin plug to even have fitted in. It may have burnt it out or if you are lucky a fuse has blown in the cupboard which supplies all the things now not working.

GHDs come with a standard 2pin plug that is converted to a UK plug using one of those screw down type converters,

I'll bet she has GHDs [or very possibly copies, there are 100000s out there] ,

Ive had this a load of times, and usually a pair of GHDs with the converter removed are to be seen in the bathroom cabinet.

HI All,

Thanks for your help with this, I had an electrician come out today and he said one of the transformers had blown, he managed to re-wire it so the lights worked again in the mirror but said the shaver socket had been blown and could not be replaced. I enquired about a replacement transformer for the unit so that I could use the shaver socket but he advised it was cost prohibitive.

I also got the power restored in the bathroom cupboard
