hi, I had a fan fitted in my bathroom a couple of years ago, it is one when you switch on the light the fan comes on.  it starts up and then opens the flaps after about 30 seconds, and when switched off it runs for about 2 mins and then shuts off,

my problem is when my grandchildren go to the bathroom for a wee, they are only there for a min and come out, I have 5 grandchildren and when they are all here the fan seems to be always running during the dark nights.  is there anything that can be done so as that only the light comes on and not the fan, as I only want the fan on when we shower.

look forward to your replies    John.

its also possible to wire them to switch on with the shower (thats if its electric), but you cant just wire it directly to the shower terminals

How about fitting a timeclock to the switch live to fan, then set timeclock so fan only runs 7am until say, 10pm?

could also change it for one with a humidistat so the fan only comes on when needed

Could just turn the isolator off wgen they go to bed?
+1

Unless of course the fan has been wired without any local isolator switch....  ?

Is there anything like this near to the fan....

or just outside the bathroom?

if yes...  turn it off at night.

Maintenance and to prevent excessive running at night are two key reasons I always fit fan isolator switches somewhere local to the fan.

Theres most of your options Taid ,   I think the cheapest is have the wiring altered so you switch the fan seperately.

Change the fan to one with a delay start  timer as said  or fit a humidity stat controlled fan .

Second thoughts........ .the cheapest is use the fan isolator switch as Specs says.

You could always fit a flow switch to your shower supply, electric or conventional, either way, when the water flows to the shower the fan comes on.
