Best cheap installation test meter for new spark

I've just finished my Lv 3 & 17th ed, and am going to be starting work on a large domestic 'new build' site. What is a good starting tester for use during installation (just for continuity and installation resistance)?

I'm looking to spend as little as possible, but at the same time I don't want to walk on-site with a toy.

You could maybe pick up a Robin one 2nd hand from ebay around

'insulation resistance' sorry, I've got installation on the brain. Don't need RDC or PFC for this meter, it's just for checking cabling of 1st fix circuits.

why do you need tester only for 1st fix what about when the 2nd fix is complete you will need them then?

I'm looking for a meter that can handle continuity and insulation resistance on any domestic LV circuit, and yes someone else is signing off the work. There are so many out there and I've had advice from others, but I thought I'd get some good advice here.

Good on you for wanting to check your own work before the "tester" comes in!

There are so many out there that it is a matter of personal choice IMHO.

I think if I were you I would be looking on ebay but don't buy the first you see.

If you want new go to Megger Mark for advice and supply is my best advice.

I have a Di-Log tester here - think its the insulation one, but I`d have to check. I haven`t used it a huge amount; and it would need calibration if you were to use it as a reference device, but for checking your work it`d do the job.

I`ll dig it out, and post up the details / photo - you can make me an offer if you want. Any "donations" are gratefully recieved at the moment.

I assume this is some commercial non-domestic work without the signing off other person works issues with Part P?

Sounds more like new build house bashing to me, thats the way it used to work when I was doing it, once dead test had been carried out for about 10 or so properties the office would be informed and send a tester down to test.

So is this a new thing in 17th amendment? In all the years I have been doing installation work never have tested cables at first fix and welcome to the forum.

he prob wants to make sure his cables are good before house gets finished and company tester gets sent,

prob get a back charge for anything thats not right, and have to pay for any damage caused during remedials.

Im with Wozz on this, its how Ive worked in the past.
