Hi guys,

My daughter has to do some super tanker dodging over the weekend at a sailing comp at Milford Haven (Welsh Zone Championships)..

We're planning on leaving home tomorrow at about 11AM,,, the Sat nav has 2 routes for us...

1. Aberystwyth and then down the coastal road

2 Newtown and then over the Brecons...

Which route would you recommend?

My experience of Aberystwyth is it's one of those areas where everybody drives at 40 regardless of road conditions and there's not many places to overtake.

Over Brecon is probably best, Everytime i go near Aberystwyth i get stuck behind slow people

Never used the Brecon route to go up to N Wales when I was doing work up there.

Always if West Aberystwyth, if East, Llandovery, Newtown Wrexam (A483).

Remembering I'm coming from Swansea.

Typed on Firefox, in Zorin, running from a USB!

Quite quick considering.

Noz,

Remember I was travelling in a van or 4x4.

Stick your start & end points into Google Maps, if it comes out like mine here then either of the routes will be fine TBH.

Speed isn't a problem.... The car has plenty of that... It's the other drivers and windy roads that will slow me down.

Did Llyn Clwyedog last weekend... Took 4 1/2 hours to get there (bad route and abysmal traffic), got back in 2 1/2 with a 15 min stop for a quick bite

Should be doing Aberdovey next weekend,, but we might knock that on the head as my daughter and friend (different club - same class - same birthday) want to try out in a 420 dinghy (double hander with trapieze) we'll have to see if we can borrow one off the Welsh Yachting Association for a few months..... The WYA are very keen to promote and help double hander girl teams as there are very few in Wales

I'd agree with Deke / Sandra / Spark-of-the-year**   {** delete as appropriate} .....

but I would go for junction 4 of the M5 as the starting point!

:coat

Well you would starting from your Special Location

I'd probably use the M6, AVOID the toll unless you have pockets like Deke.
You mean EMPTY ones  Stepps  ?      The M6 toll is  , I think,  £4.50  ish  for a car .

Could be worth paying sometimes TBH    I was stuck on the M6  that long last week  I've received a Council Tax Bill .

A few Sundays ago there was the Mother of all jams between J8 & J9   with the M5 disgorging 10,000,000 cars a minute on to the M6 too .          Where were they all going ?    A ****ing sale at ****ing Ikea  at Junction  ****ing  9   :C

You mean those roads are worse than the Midlands  M6,  the longest car park in Britain ?

I only experienced the M25 once about 20 yrs ago when for some reason , we had to collect a transit full of light fittings from somewhere in London .

Nightmare. !!

Well **** me... We left home at 11:20 and got here at 17:00 with a 20min stop at Mac D's just outside Aberystwyth for a toilet stop and what they call food.

****ing Sunday drivers, coaches and camper vans slowing us down.... and then you get the friggin idiots that overtake a huge queue of traffic on a single lane road and push their way in... All to get there 5 cars earlier... Toss pots

i will overtake from the back and pull back in further forward if need be, but only if people upfront dont overtake. if i have time / space to overtake a good few cars then those at the front would have had plenty time to do so.

probably. but it is weird how some will follow once they remember they can actually overtake.

people stopping behind a bus are the worst. i have no problem passing many cars waiting behind a bus because the person at the front cant think to get past themselves. only when its safe to do so and nothing coming the over way, of course

Oh,,, I did that.... It's just the idiots overtaking a queue to get 5 cars further up the road and then they still end up on the queue... It's an un necessary risk IMHO,,, but overtaking when the road ahead is clear I have no problem with
