Hi all,

Please treat this as a hyperthetical question, intentionally vague of details....

You arrive at a block of 4 flats to carry out works in one of them. Whilst doing pre-works checks/tests you discover black tar has been leaking from suppliers cut-out.......what would you do/what were you taught to do??

Thanks,

B.

ring the DNO,

they will be hot so fast the heat from their shoes will melt the tar even faster!!!

seriously tho, ring them, they will treat it as urgent.

It would depend, sometimes what looks like a leaky tar is just due to the meter monkeys being a little haphazard and not cleaning up after themselves. If its established and running hot and looks like its leaking as you look at it, then contact them asap the demand is too high, or a connection is very loose.

Thanks Steps,

I did that, but wanna hear more opinions before I 'hyperthetically' reveal more......

I always remember a chap i worked for via builder had quite a bit coming out of his three phase hed. Told him to ring DNO to sort it out. Went back quite a while later noticed it was the same but he did have a smoke detector in cupboard as sort of protection. Thought it was quite funny though.

Its not "TAR " its Cable Jointing Compound.......... just got my pedantic head on for a moment.

And as said, it usually means a loose connection or long periods of overload.

Call the DNO obv! then film it on your phone since I've never seen bubbling joining compound before then post it I'm sure many will find it interesting

I'll see if I can re-create it later... :innocent

Useful ruse here, I have done it many times. Phone DNO, tell them there is a 'leakage of compound and that the fuses sometimes get too hot to touch'. Usual result is a new cutout, new tails and more often than not they up the size of the fuse, ALL for free...........simples................. :coat

on the other hand they may say 'ooooh that is dangerous, remove main fuse, smash it to pieces and then throw the remains down the nearest drain'
