Hi all,

I am aware that this topic has been covered many a time but I couldn't find an exact identical situation.

While replacing the battery in the smoke alarm, I have deactivated 2 breakers (one responsible for the smoke alarms and one for the lights just in case). When I went back to switch the breakers on I noticed that there was some sort of buzzing noise (not too loud but loud enough to be heard through a closed door) When I turned the lighting breaker. The box is a crabtree starbreaker, we have no dimmers installed, the installation is fairly new since the house is about 8 years old.

Now my question is whether this is something that should be ignored or investigated further?

Many thanks!

(please note that the buzzing sound was already there before switching the breakers off initially however I am unsure how long it is going for, it has definitely not been like this since the beginning.)

I can't tell you WHY its buzzing ,  probably an internal component  within the breaker .     They don't normally buzz so I'd agree with Andy , replace it .   Less than  £5 .

Unlikely that its close to it's rated current  on a domestic job  but if theres another 6 amp you could swap the circuits ,  see if the buzzing moves to the other breaker .

Or there may be a spare one in the board , swap that around.

How many lights, what type(s) and what is the load in total......

This is probably either a lose connection or the load is on the limit of the MCB.......
