bs1361 type 2 100 amp catridge fuse what is the ka reading for this ?33ka?

bs1361 type 1 catridge fuse what is the ka reading for this?16.5 ka?.And does this type come in various fuse sizes 100,80amp etc?Ryan

Basically are type 1 and type 2 fuses in households 16.5 ka?ryan

Type 1 will be 16.5 kAType 2 will be 33 kA
So the fuse carriers with bs 1361 type 2 100 amp written on side of them are 33ka correct?

Like Steptoe has said, you can not really rely on what is printed on the side of the fuse carrier, most are, but without a visual on the actual fuse its hard to tell.

What I do for certificates with an unknown sealed fuse unit is Not Verified. So far no assessment I have had has been refused and most who did not know the reason have been impressed with my reasoning.

I do the exact same,

always have done,

its the way I was taught, and the reasons I was gave I still stand by now.

unless I see it with my own eyes Im not taking anyone elses word for it if I have to sign.

Do you write Not Verified for the type and Ka rating as well?

Yes Nicky, without the type you could not verify the rating. I was asked on one assessment if I had any problems with this, my answer was no, not really. If I had any doubts as to the extra loading an indication can be provided by the size of the DNO tails/supply, and because the fuse carrier is sealed I have no way of knowing if the fuse is of the type and rating it is supposed to be.

There is of course an exeption to this, and that is if you have requested a temporary disconnection for a cu change for example, or requested an isolator to be fitted, then I would presume that you would have verified the fuse if only to satisfy yourself of its characteristics.

I Have noticed some DNO fuses are physically larger than others. My thoughts were that the larger ones maybe type 2

I would say that is a fair assumption, however the newer types are the same sized carrier, but have different rated fuses. A recent 3 phase supply I did was 60 amp per phase, but the fuses were in the same sized holders as 100 amp, and even had the 100 amp type II printed on the side, the DNO fitter told me they use the same units for any fuse.

there are 2 types. ME & MF. iirc, ME only go upto 80a, MF go to 100a. so usually smaller in 60/80 heads, and larger in 100a heads

the smaller type is used in many switch fuses

I have already mentioned 2 Types i have seen and photographed type LR7 1 and type RHL (printed on the side of the fuse)
