Not quite sure why my last thread was locked as I felt I asked a reasonable question.

When working on DBs which have BS 3871 MCBs, and you are adding a new circuit, do you source new BS 3871 MCBs, do you suggest a full board change or can BS 60898 MCBs fit?

It was probably locked automatically as you clicked on the "best answer" button

However to answer your question.....

Personally i keep a large stock of obsolete circuit breakers

Including

MEM

WYLEX HB...........some brand new and still in the box

MEM. RCBO modules....removable

Wylex NB

SQ D QOE. Double prong

SQ D type X

SQ d type 4

I always advise a new board if i think there may be future expansion and the present board is not big enough, and then let the customer decide.

After all it is their money not mine

Just hoarding

it was 'locked' because you locked it by selecting best answer and closing the thread.

depends on the situation, sometimes source a correct MCB, sometimes replace the board

Haha didn't realise i'd selected best answer. Oops, another side effect of fat fingers and small keys.

The aforementioned DB is in a school, its a 24 way board, only 8 ways are used. I'm adding one new circuit. Do you know if 60898 MCBs can fit in MEM Memshield 1 boards which have 3871 MCBs.

See my link in your original thread.

Old MCB's for old obsolete boards are easy to source. That's what I do.  Why change a perfectly good DB just for the sake of searching out an MCB for it?

The fuse company .co.uk is another place to find old fuses and MCB's, thought they can be expensive (a lot more expensive than ebay)

Just to reiterate for Amlec .....as said above ,  the older MCBs are avaliable but are now rising in price as they become rarer, however still the cheaper option than changing ,say, a 24 way  TPN board.

We had to order an MEM  breaker once , TP  old style , they had to make one @ £80 if I remember correctly  but still cheaper than replacing the board .

Generally you will find what you need on the net .   Or even on here . !

hi...

just to ad my two penneth worth now.  A 3871 breaker is not listed in BS7671 so an EIC would have to state that in the departures box.  That is the box you always thought you wrote 'none' in :innocent
