Has any one come across one of these?

Had a question about its installation on my exam. Looks like a gas item to me and nothing to do with our trade. I asked tutors about it on way out but no one had come across it. :C

Question was something like bs 6172 plug socket should not be installed on a hot surface and...

in cupboard

in steam

in combustion products

erm something else

thanks.

It is relevant to any electrician BS 6172 is the standard for the installation of gas hobs etc etc, this not only covers the flexible gas pipe and connections but the socket outlet and plug top. It is another instance of crossed regulations, which we should all be aware of.

Well with the multiple guess element, its one in four chance of a correct answer, wish I hadn't wasted so much time looking for it in wiring/building regs.

Hey ho.

Thanks Manator and Deke - i agree with the question and answer you gave your self Deke, certainly new to me, other students, 2 examiners, a tutor, lad i work with and my boss. Not a well known reg, and i still don't know the answer.

There are many regulations that come into play when your doing your work, Sidewinder is constantly reminding people of other regulations beside BS7671 in his posts. To install the electric to the gas hob you have to comply with both regulations, which is often overlooked by most, myself included at times.
