Hi All

Just done Consumer Unit Change. The Main Service Fuse is what ****inson would call " a right old bobby dazzler " BS 3036 rewireable. It's the ceramic 60A type, no tube . Anyone know the Short Circuit capacity of these types ?? A quick ask around is revealing between 1 - 4 Ka ?

Regards

On-site guide; capacity limited to 4kA dependent upon category.

page 57.

In my black museum I have a cut-out dating from the days of DC.

Its fuse is a cartridge fuse to BS 88 100 A. There is also a link for

a fuse in the neutral because the earthing arrangement used the

public tramways. The neutral fuse was removed when they were

taken up and replaced by the trolley buses.

What are you saying , they used the Tramlines for an earth ??

Went back to 2nd fix a job today & spotted a brand new shiny head & meter. Customer had taken my advice & phoned supplier to remove the disused economy 7 gear. Meter fixer refused to touch the old head as "it probably contains asbestos". Apparently EDF turned up and said we cant touch that, have to cut it off in the street, dig up your newly laid concrete drive and fix a nice white plastic box next to your front door etc. After some very strong language spread over several phone calls a different jointer turned up with a man in a suit, had a look at the old head under the stairs and changed it for the new in about 15 minutes.

They seem to like digging holes thats what they did when the meter man couldn't get the main fuse out at my house. The drive will never be the same. As you say it used to be astraight forward job nowadays its an epic.

Forgot to mention, i was surprised they even came to change the meter. All other times our customers have put in a similar request they have been told the supplier will simply add the two readings together, or ignore the off peak heating if it doesn't change. This is to save money & man hours.

Evans...yes, the tram system was part of the earthing

arrangement. The guys who took the cut-out off told

me how it was done. The tram system was still expanding

in 1938/39 and in Leeds, values of Ze are increasing because

of the degradation in that very part of the arrangement.

Following renewal of the cut-out they took a live measurement

of Ze. I recorded 0.15 on a TN-S system.

NO PME NEEDED.
