As the title says found out this afternoon that a local house builder has gone down the pan owing me big thousands with very little chance of seeing it. Only been going for less than a year and I could really do without this. Basically I have worked Dec, Jan and most of Feb for free so have now got my Mr Angry head on.

The thing that really gets me is I have been knocking work back to keep going with this company. I could have had a good few weeks of work lined up but now the diary is empty next week.

Hopefully tomorrow will bring a more positive outlook.

The stella is going to get a hell of a pasting tonight.

No they were invoiced per job. Lots of jobs so lots of small invoices and they were on 45 days from end of month. Mostly doing testing, small repairs and install so a right mix, otherwise I would have wanted some money during work.

They were a house builder that had a few subsidiaries and I was working for most of them. Lesson learned!

You have to be careful with builders..

the one I got shafted by (a few years ago) got me to do some small (ish) jobs and paid for those straight away.... then I did a 2 rewires and an extension..... got some money, but nowhere near what he owes!!

I got done for a grand last summer. Lots of little jobs paid in cash then a biggie and he just up sticks and disappears.

A ltd company, he has not filed his accounts but ceased trading. After further investigation he actually filed to close his business before he asked me to do the last job.

I know this job was part of a

A12, sorry to hear that one , I have been in this trade since Elvis came out of the Army and have only come across two builders I could trust with money.

I hate to say this but its doubtful that you will get any of this money back.

Put your claim in but don't expect any return, I had a firm go on me for

This is why I don;t work for builders, apart from the odd smaller ones who I know personally and do the odd extension for. Wouldn;t be too keen on doing large new builds and wotnot for random builders.

Perhaps I shouldn't say this but................BUILDERS CANNOT BE TRUSTED ...generally speaking.
Trouble is you need them just working direct for people you need a real large customer base. A lot of my work is for one builder who at present is not too bad but the majority of money lost in past has been through builders.

I had a meeting today with my accountant regarding a builder/developer who had gone bust.

I thought he owed me

Right, new day new attitude. No point wallowing in my own sh!te so its onwards and upwards, and as it turns out Stella doesn't fix everything. Totalled it up and I reckon it's in the region of about

A12,

I feel bad for you bud, how well do you know the staff at the old builder who contacted who ? reason why I ask is it worth contacting the larger company to see if they can help you out, not with settling the old bills but maybe with some work to fill your empty diary with a few pay on completion jobs ? They might be able to help they might not but its got to be worth a try. Try to get hold of one of the most senior contacts you know of. Nothing ventured nothing gained m8.
